Weld's Largemouth Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 How would you fish it!? #3 I thought this would be a interesting, fun idea: I give you a photo of a spot and i give you the current conditions. You are given five baits that you must pick from to use. You may suggest a bait for this spot. Some of the baits may be difficult to use during given conditions or new to you. You must choose a bait from the five baits, explain your reasoning, and how would you work it (speed, etc.) The spot: Conditions: Sunny, clear sky, warm, shallow water (pond is quite shallow overall), late May, mid to high 70's ( degrees ), LOTS of weeds, plants and grass, clear water, midday. Lures with exposed hooks pick up lots of weeds The baits : [images are not actual scale] 1. Gary Yamamoto Senko, 5" Bama Bug color 2. Booyah Poppin Pad Crasher Frog, Cricket Frog color 3. Booyah Boo Jig, Watermelon/Red flake color w/ Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic KVD Chunk + 4. Zoom 4" Fluke, Watermelon seed color 5. Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless Spoon 1 Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Jig, because it's what I fish no matter the location, and Im sorta set in my ways. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 Jig, because it's what I fish no matter the location, and Im sorta set in my ways. You don't try other lures ever?! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Jig first flipped & pitched into the holes, spoon across the top and let fall into holes. If fish are less aggressive and won't hit the fast falling jig try the senko in the more open holes. I'd throw the frog later on when the weeds green up and thicken more. 1 Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 You don't try other lures ever?! Lol, yea I fish plenty of other things, I was just trying to be funny. A jig goes with me everywhere, and its my favorite lure, thats why I said that. 1 Quote
river-rat Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I would start with a 1/2 oz. Johnson Silver Minnow in black nickle or gold with a trailer. After that it would be a toss up between a Spro Frog, Ribbit, or Senko. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 Yea.. Sorry I am pitching a trig rage craw in there! And... A GYCB Cut tale....shew!! Glad I can choose! Quote
Megastink Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The frog is the most practical choice. You can cover water quickly with it, it is snag less with little pickin grass off, and the entire pond is shallow, which means you're always in the strike zone; according to the conditions. This senerio is BUILT for a frog! 2 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 BAMA BUG senko is my favorite senko. Id throw that with a weedless hook on top of those weeds drag/twitch it across and get better hook-up than with frog. If not getting bit on top of the weeds then let it fall just over the edge of the weeds and work the water column. If it hits bottom I drag/hop it across bottom back to me. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 I would have to go with the senko again. With an Owner 2/0 weedless wacky hook. With weeds that thick, it makes it hard to do much of anything. I would try the fluke and jig as well. 1 Quote
crazyjoeclemens Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I'd go with the senko on a weedless wacky hook, too. The trick would be to flip it into the clear spots, between the weeds. I actually did that on a small local pond yesterday, with a Powerbait Shaky Worm, and had some success. Quote
CalBassin Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Honestly, the only practical thing you'd use in this situation is the frog. So much vegitation is perfect for that frog and all you have to do is launch it, and walk it back, venturing your bait through the open spots which are great for bass to ambush your frog. Also I'd use the jig! You should get some SiebertOutdoors jigs, he has a wide variety of head and skirt colors that are the best in the business in my humble opinion. ANYWAYS.. I'd pick up one of Mike's from SiebertOutdoors, grass jig and just swim it through with a double tail grub. I'd also punch those mats with a heavy grass jig that Mike sells as well. So just use those tactics for your jig!! Hope I helped somewhat! 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 Bass won't always want to hit topwater though. Quote
Tylertut Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Is go with the senko. Rigged with a 3/0 hook weedless you can run it over the weeds as a topwater and also work any cover that might be around the weed mats. You get the functionality of both the frog and the jig with one bait. Quote
Pepul Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I don't want to start a new topic, just one question. im fishing tomorrow, it's going to be partly cluody, it rained this week almost every day, fish are in postspawn, what shoul i fish?? Baits, places,... Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 Those conditions I'd go jig. Quote
Megastink Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Bladed reaction baits. High water, bass guarding fry. Chatterbaits would be my number 1. Spinnerbait, and if the water weren't too stained, swim jig. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Froggin! I'd twitch that frog really slow on that slop and speed it up a little over the pockets. Shallow water, the bass will ambush from all directions! Quote
