First Fish On A Lipless Crank

Went out this morning and got snagged while using some soft plastics so I decided to tie on a red eye shad.  I've never had much luck with hard baits but within a few casts I hooked into a nice smallmouth, I was burning it fast then killed it for a few seconds, on one of the pauses I felt her hit.  I caught another one the next cast and then the next cast I got snagged and broke off. I was disappointed because that bait was working so well and the fact that I just lost a $5 lure.

 

I then tied on a gold #3 inline spinner and started nailing them on that, then got snagged and had to cut the line.

 

So now that I have a bit of confidence in treble hook baits, I've lost them all in the river lol.  Figured Id share this mornings outing.

The RES's are great lures. They catch fish for sure, although this year I could probably count on one hand how many fish Iv had take mine. About two weeks ago, I was running a "fire tiger" red eye shad, when I hooked into what looked to be a four pound fish. She jumped and spit my lure right back at me.

Funny, I caught my first bass on a lipless just yesterday.  It was already tied on my casting rig and I hadn't used it all day.  Decided to give it a couple of casts right before calling it a morning and WHAM.  Small bass, but it hit like ton of bricks.  Mine was a red crawdad XPS rattle.  Love those things.

I definitely need to get more, i'm just afraid of loosing them.  I was using sexy shad color but I should get a few colors possible a transparent version and maybe a perch color.  Are there any colors that you guys really like for clear water?

I use a few different colors in a clear lake that I fish. A spro aruku shad in perch color and black/chrome and bluegill in various different brands.

I rarely have the nerve to throw trebles from the bank anymore.  If it seems like a crank is called for, I'll try Storms, flukes, hollowbody swimbaits and other fish-like plastics that aren't as fond of eating submerged wood.
