northern basser Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I don't understand why garlic works but it must. I've never used too much stuff with it on it, but there are a lot of companies that use it. I've heard smallmouth REALLY like it. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 29, 2011 Super User Posted March 29, 2011 More than anything, I think garlic is a mask, but I really don't know and I really don't care because it just flat works. If you don't want to deal with those ring fries, just send them on over to me. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I was out fishing my partner using the ring frys when he was throwing something very similar just no scent. Like out fishing 5-1, until he gave up and asked for some ring frys. On another note, my friend wanted to play a prank on someone down the hall in the dorm so we got some Chompers Garlic spray and shot it into their room through the peep hole that we unscrewed. Boy did that reek. Fun time Quote
johnD. Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I'm a believer in garlic on soft plastics. Right now I'm using the Yum LPT stuff works. Bass hold on to it forever..There use to be this stuff back in the day called Lock Jaw in garlic scent that stuff was the bomb. Haven't see that around in years it was actually a oil, stayed on the bait for a long time. Quote

I fished with the originator of that a couple times, that stuff was unbelievably effective. I don't think it's as effective as JJs, though. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted March 29, 2011 Super User Posted March 29, 2011 http://www.jjsmagic.com/ Dip the tips of a craws claws in chartreuse and hang on. Dip in clear for just scent. Chartreuse and methylate make orange that is irresistible on a PB+J craw/jig in stained water. A touch of chartreuse on a finesse worm rigged on a shakey. I'd never have believed one thing could effect catch rates as much as it does. I'm a believer in that it will convert fish that are negative or neutral; whether it be reaction from a different color, scent, or from an anger sort of bite. It isn't a magic bullet, but it definitely provides an edge that can help push otherwise not interested fish into hitting. Quote
