MemphisFF Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Ok guys I'm using power pro slick 30lb on a curado I 7 my question is every once in a while when I throw, the line knots up during mid throw.. I'm trying to explain like a backlash but it jus catches like the spool is going too fast.. Have no loops in the line or anything like that when I throw it..kinda weird question I kno. I just started throwing braid and I love it.. Hardly get backlashes but it just catches and is annoying every once in a while.. I guess you can call it a backlash but too me it jus catches and it stops and I pull on the line and make sure no loops or knots and reel up and cast again..I've been throwing bait casters since I was 13 years old I'm 38 so I can't figure it out with this braid..anyone else's have this happen and solutions.. Preytorien Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I didn't like Super 8 Slick on my baitcasters because it had a little more dig-in than I liked. I think maybe you're seeing the same thing. The line basically has dug into the spool and halts the line coming off, which of course shows during casting. I switched to Sufix 832, and have not had an ounce of problem. I think it might just be the overly slick nature of the Slick 8 braid - maybe it just lets itself dig more than the other types. I'll be watching this thread to see what others might offer for direction. 1 Quote
Solution primetime Posted May 30, 2014 Solution Posted May 30, 2014 Here is how I fixed my problems with braid getting kinked 1x and then it just gets worse as the day goes on...I also went to an 8 strand and PP Plus is perfect as it is soft, won't dig, and I never go with anything lighter than 50 lb test, since I would never use anything less than 10lb on a casting reel for mono...I have found that Power pro Plus, Samurai, Suffix 832 is still a bit rough, but in 50-65 I like it....Suffix has a new y6 braid out that is thicker so 30lb is similar to 10lb in diameter...I just spooled up some 40lb which I belive is 12lb for my round baitcasting reel, and it casted like a boss.....And that line is also less expensive than the 8 strand spectras.. I also find if I use Tuff Line Xp it will not give me issuesf and that is a 4 stand that is soft and not too expensive..I can't use Power Pro on Casting Reels, it is to stiff, however I like it for flipping so I only use 20 yards of 65 on tourney day. I like how it cuts weeds since it is wound so tight it is almost like wire.... I went through 7-8 boxes of Berkley Crystal Superlines which are meant for spinning gear, power pro, WInd Tamer, Stren...all in the 20-30lb range, and all were a nightmare on my casting set ups...I upped to 10lb minimum diameter with softer braid....BLue Power Pro Plus 50 and 65, and also new suffix y6 is really good and I just tried it and actually prefer it to 832 for casting reels...Now I love Crystal, 832, and PP on spinning gear, but I bet that helps your problems.....I have friends who can use 30, but I notice they are more gentle than I am, so a good amount of the people I fish with only go 10lb or 12lb preferably...Hope that helps...I bet it will....and who cares if it is overkill, Bass never minded 10-15lb Trilene BIg Game... Super User Tywithay Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 That line has a coating on it to make it "slick." It also makes it easier for the line to dig into itself. Quote

I've heard about "Power Pro Plus" a few times now, what line is it exactly? Quote
