Has anyone ever fished this canal in the Palmetto Park rd area? Where would I be able to launch a canoe to get to this area? Any advice would be appreciated.

Fished it many times.

On Dixie Hwy just north or Hillsboro rd there is Pioneer park, I believe it's a public ramp, you can work your way north up the canal.

Just north of Glades on NW 4 th is an apartment, I think it's called Cynthia Arms, there is a little cement ramp there.  I've parked there many times and no ever says anything.  This is directly across the canal from FAU.  There is a spillway there, a cement over flow not a lock, one side is fresh water the other is brackish and tidal.  I've caught snook, tarpon, bass, jacks, lady fish there.

It is saltwater at Palmetto Pk Road.  If you look at Google Earth (or other satellite mapping program)... trace the canal north of NW 20 street in Boca and you will see where there is a bike path that runs alongside the El Rio canal.  The path runs a long ways to the Boca-Delray border.  This part is all freshwater.  I fished the banks and caught largemouth and seen peacock bass.  I put a canoe in from the FAU campus.  There was no ramp and it was a bit tricky but I bet you would have an easier time putting in where the El Rio intersects Congress Ave in Boca.  Park on the side of the road and drag you canoe over the bank.

I'm not sure where you can park a vehicle @ Congress and the El Rio, there are some office building a little further south.  The further south from Glades the saltier it gets, eventually the canal dumps into the ocean via the Hillsboro inlet.  The ramp I mentioned at the Cynthia arms is where the spillway is, especially in rainy season fresh water flows into the tidal part of the canal.  Some years ago I caught a bass that was a good 6# where the canal intersects Glades rd.
