Super User Darren. Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 Wish they could endure Virginia temperatures!! Nice haul, mate. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 I hear tell of people catching peas on an array of soft plastics in Broward, in Palm Beach people claim only hard baits work. A peacock is peacock, don't see any reason for them not to hit just about anything, I catch mine on marabou jigs. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 Mornings have been pretty decent for peas, caught this and it's twin this morning at 6:30, another nice one a few days ago in the am as well. Quote

Not so sure about that. I ran into a young man at the ocean this morning, he showed me his peacock pics.........wow! Lots of 6 pounders, even told me where to go. Usually that kind of info is bogus, not this time. Didn't want to sneak in, I don't like doing that but my curiosity got the best of me. Made about 15 casts with a xrap, 2 peas between 3 and 4#. Didn't want get kicked out so I left, irony is it's 5 minutes from my home. The guy said some one stocked the lake, only logical answer. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 I saw the pics of him and his buddy with lots of fish. I may not be going back as much as I'd like to catch them, I don't like trespassing. My regret yesterday was taking a a medium spinning rod, not knowing what the water looked like I though there may be a vegetation issue, there wasn't. I normally use a ml for peacocks which would have been a choice more to my liking, if I go back that's what I'd take. Peacocks are fun on light tackle. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 4, 2014 Super User Posted June 4, 2014 A 6 pound peacock hopefully may be in the near future for me, not too shabby for a non Miami fish. Got this one today, caught 2 others. Quote
Shanes7614 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Snook... I'd love to get together with you and catch one if these buggers. Show me the way of the Jedi peacock fisherman!!! Please!!! Lol Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I heard a theory the other day and I could buy it. Down the south there are more peas than we have up here, with more competition the fish seem to be way more aggressive. Up here almost all of my peacocks are caught by sight casting, walking the bank till I spot them. Early morning there is a better chance of them feeding, it can be a bit easier but you won't see as many. I do see more in the PM but they basically are just staged a few feet off the bank, generally in pairs, IMO this is hunting fish. Sometimes I can make upwards of 30 or more casts before I get hook up, they are not feeding but striking because they are ticked off. My lure of choice is a 1/8 oz marabou jig, any bucktail will work as well, drag it on the bottom once they get interested. With the heat and humidity I'm just about done fishing for them, the novelty is wearing off. Personally I only use light or med light spinning, it's a nice fight on that kind of tackle but by no means is it even close to a jack of the same size, which I may not be able to land on the same gear.
