KYBassin' Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Anyone else use the trilene know with braided line? Just wondering. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 No. The knot will slip with braided lined Quote
Cgrinder Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I used it for a bit when I was learning braid and didn't have any issues. However I would take Scott F's advice and use another knot. The 5-7 turn Uni has served me well with all lb. tests of Power Pro. 1 Quote
boostr Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 7 twist improved clinch knot works great also with braid. Quote
KYBassin' Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 I appreciate the input. I've used the Trilene knot with braid for a few years now, without any obvious issues. But I have read some have had "slipping" issues, like Scott mentioned. Last thing I want is to have a pig on and have the knot slip apart. Quote
Diggy Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 No. The knot will slip with braided lined What? Its the only knot I ever use with braid and its never slipped. I tried the palomar a few times but it was annoying to tie in my opinion and I wasted tag end. Not that it matters, Bobby Barrack uses this knot for his frog fishing and he loves it. Quote
Grantman83 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I believe bobby barrak of Bobby's perfect frog recommends the trilene knot. Since he is a master with heavy line and a frog, I believe it should work. I've recently started using the double Palomar knot I saw dean Rojas and ish Monroe use. That thing takes Pliers to tighten down and does not break Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 I should add that I only use braided lines but only use 20 lb test or less. On the 8 and 10 lb lines, slipping was a problem with the Trilene knot. I never tried the knot on heavier lines that many other anglers favor. It may work better with those lines. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 If you're going to use the Trilene knot tying terminal tackle to PE line, leave >=1/2" of tag line. I leave at least that much tag with any knot I'm tying with a PE line. oe Quote

I use 30 lb Power Pro, which is 8 lb mono diameter. I've been conflicted on what knot to use ever since I started using braid. Everyone says use the palomar....but I really don't like tying it. Probably because I haven't used it that often and I'm not that good at it. Quote

Most common brand names of the materials used in braided fishing lines are Spectra and Dyneema. Both of these brands are polyethylene (PE). I use the acronym PE to include not only lines that are physically "braided" but also to include lines that are fused, twisted, atomically aligned or any other way a polyethylene line can be manufactured. oe Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 The original braid knot is a double line Trilene knot and works great. The knot starts like a Palomar double line, except the loop end is warped around the main line 5 turns like the Trilene knot, the passed through opening next to the hook or lure, then pulled tight. Trim off the loop and tag ends. Down side is 3 tag ends, upside doesn't slip and easy to tie. Tom 1 Quote

deadadrift89 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Check out the Triple Loop(Knot Wars app). Same as Trilene but add one more pass through hook eye Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 I believe what I use is the improved Trilene knot.....twice through the eye five wraps around itself and it's a done deal. Have used for years and years and no troubles at all and it's simple. Double uni for knots to tie braid to fluro and life is easy pezy and more fishing time Tight Lines Quote
