How do you guys hold your braid when pulling it tight... I've cut my fingers like 100 times this week tightening my braid knots and its getting old.

I've got to where if I'm going on a long bass fishing or saltwater trip I bring a pair of gloves to use when tying my knots but I hate putting them on because it makes me feel like a Yankee. ( Yankee things a joke lol )

How are you getting cut?!?!? What knot are you tying? If it is that hard to pull you are making it to tight before you finally cinch it down.

I use Power Pro and a Palomar knot.... no issues just wet the knot then cinch it tight with the main line in 1 hand and the tag in the other. Never a cut or even slight pain.

I'm using power pro super slick and sufix and improved clinch knot with the occasional double uni knot

When the line slides in between the digits of my fingers and I pull it tight it cuts my fingers sometimes, has happened before on most my fingers but happens alit on my pinkie finger

I'm surprised it hasn't happened to you guys yet... It doesn't happen when I'm using thicker braid like 40-65lb but when the really thin stuffs out like 10lb braid that's when it cuts my fingers like butter, I might look into buying the finger savers lol

Tie a palomar knot and it shouldn't be an issue

I never thought of using it in fresh water, but a rubber covered dowel works good. Something like a Bic pen with some shrink wrap over it should do. We use a larger version offshore, or lotion...

I get this also time to time, especially when your hands get wet allot.

What also helps if you are tightening down your knot attach your hook to the ears of your scissors or forceps, and use them as leverage... Just thought I'll throw that in there also.

I cut my pinky finger tightening 10 lb. Power Pro at least once a week. It happens.

Same here.  I use 20 lb. Power Pro and have never had an issue.  Now if you are trying to pull the line loose from something w/your bare hands I could see that stuff taking off a finger or two.

My first guess is Yankee hands must be tougher than...

 

My second guess is you don't need to be tightening your knots as tight as you're trying to tighten them.

I do not like the Palomar knot so I'm not switching to that.

I've cut myself but it usually happens when I'm tightening an alberto knot, not often enough for a major concern.

I still don't really get how people cut them selves. Are you wrapping the line around your fingers and trying to pull it tight? Wrap your main line around your hand and not a individual finger. Between your thumb and index. For pulling my tag end I will use my needle nose if needed because it is usually really short and there is no real way to grip it.

I use the fishin' fool knot for braided line...if the knots slides down, you know you did it right and you don't have to pull hard and cut your fingers. You can actually leave it loose and let the fish pull it tight.
