Smallmouth Hunter Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Well, there is a new BPS pro lite. I can't say I am very excited though. Yeah, it is light in weight, but that wasn't the nice thing about the old prolite. The old prolite was known as a fairly good finesse bait caster at a great price. The spool on the new prolite holds 130 yards of 12 lb line. That is more than the PQ holds, and they are calling it a prolite?!? This is just speculation as it could be a great finesse caster; I have never used it. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Prolite-Special-Baitcast-Reel/product/1311080716303/ Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Booooo.. I've always wanted one of those old ProLite Gems. I believe the "c" model was the most sought after? I think 21farms has/had a few nice ones. Can't ever find a lefty and this doesn't seem to be offered in LH. That spool appears to be quite deep... Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 I don't think "Prolite" has anything to do with finesse, just the fact that the reel is light in weight. I'm sure it's a fine reel, but will be far from a finesse caster. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Interesting, some of the older varieties of this reel were Daiwa based, this appears to be another Doyo offering. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 This is the second time that BPS has recycled the ProLite name - each time with reels on the bottom end of the price structure. Trying to still get mileage out of the good rep of the original reel I expect. The original ProLite Finesse reel was made in three versions, with the final version (PRL05HC) being the most sought-after - perhaps since it has dual-braking and a swept handle. I have three "C" models - nifty reels... Quote
