ChicagoEd Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Well after a couple seasons of bass fishing I finally scored a new bass PB of 2 3/4 lb. I know it's nothing to brag about but for me it's a fun accomplishment. Was able to lip 11 largies yesterday with most between the 2-3 lb mark. Next milestone is a 3lber. Hopefully it doesn't take me another two years! Oh, and no pics...I was too embarrassed to take pics in front of real bass'ers ;-) Oh, all caught drop shotting a worm. 4 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Nice! Any personal best bass is something to brag about! Now you will probably start considering every 2 3/4 lb bass small. lol. 1 Quote

reb67 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I sent a pic of 3 lbs of bass to my bass fishing friend Sunday how ever it was 3-1 pounders. Point is it was more then he caught he was cutting grass. Be proud of your PB those bass-ers you are talking about had to start some where. 1 Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Reb is right. Everybody starts somewhere. Flaunt that PB. Its your accomplishment. Feel good about it, and remember.. It's all uphill from here. 1 Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 if you want to catch big bass, use big lures and not finesse stuff like dropshot. Once I started using larger lures, my fish size has increased dramatically. Swimbaits, larger chatterbaits, topwater, etc. 1 Quote
ChicagoEd Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Thanks fellas, definately looking forward to more success! 1 Quote
ChicagoEd Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 if you want to catch big bass, use big lures and not finesse stuff like dropshot. Once I started using larger lures, my fish size has increased dramatically. Swimbaits, larger chatterbaits, topwater, etc. You know, my initial mindset was go big or go home. Ive thrown the big swim baits, big cranks, just about all my tackle is setup for various big bass bait techniques. I started out with the big lures, always looking for a 5+. But after being skunked so many times I figured maybe I should downsize and learn to catch the small ones. Getting skunked I couldn't learn how to detect a bite, set the hook, fight the fish etc. So I guess I sort of gave up on finding the big ones and focused more on learning how to bass fish. Obviously my PB shows I have a long way to go but at least I'm starting to get the bites now. But I do agree with you, big lures catch big fish. Hopefully I'll catch enough of the little guys and be rdy for when the big girl hits. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Big bass will bite a small lure just as good as a big lure just sometimes ones better than the other, this bass on our wall was caught on a black trick worm weightless... 1 Quote
reb67 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I know you have read about Senko's on this site in fact there is post right now "Senko strikes again". Fish a senko it appeals to all size bass I have caught my smallest and my PB on a senko. 1 Quote

WVbassin87 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Congrats! nothing to be ashamed of! I can relate tho, my main rod is a Zebco 33 because it's all i've ever felt comfortable trying. meanwhile, most people are slaying hawgs using baitcasters 1 Quote
