Dearmitt1976 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I fish a little lake with good numbers when it comes to fish but is very full of weeds already. It's only my second year into fishing bass and I can't seem to get a few options to work once the weeds are high. Rattle traps work great until the weeds came. The are about 2 inches from the water line. Any help on what to use would be appreciated. Quote
MIbassin Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 II fish many clear lakes that are filled with weeds…stick to soft plastics texas rigged or whacky rigged as well as topwater frogs. Swim jigs are also another great option.. 1 Quote
WVbassin87 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 If you wanna stay clear of the weeds instead of slamming through them, try a topwater plug. Hula Poppers, Jitterbugs, any buzzbaits or topwater frogs would probably work great. Texas-rigged tubes are a great way to fish the weeds with minimal snags. if you want something that rattles, get a square billed shallow diving crank or a Rapala Quote
CDMeyer Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I fish a lake that is over run with weeds, my best advice would be to try and use a jig and work it around and do not be afraid to through it in the weeds either Quote
Chris9999 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 One thing you might want to try is a mojo rig as Flulemaster calls it. It is basically a smaller version of a carolina rig, this makes it so that the weight will just glide on top of the weeds and the bait is suspended above the weeds. Quote
Dearmitt1976 Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 I appreciate all your help guys. Thank you! Quote
playmaker47 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Stanley Ribbit frogs. My fiance caught her PB 7 lber on these last week through thick weeds. Make sure you are throwing braided line though. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-FROGS.html?from=basres Also try weightless senko style baits. I prefer Yum Dingers on a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. Also use braid but stick a florocarbon leader on so they can't see the line. http://www.***.com/Yum_F2_Dinger/descpage-YF2D.html Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Flipping and pitching senkos in and around the grass always produces for me. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 I'd use the following baits: Topwater - Frog (Hollow or Plastic) and buzzbaits..and weightless fluke (keeping it up on top of the weeds, so sorta like topwater) Swim Jigs and spinnerbaits (especially at the weed lines for spinnerbaits) Pitch jigs/trig into open pockets Weedless wacky hook with a senko type bait or trick worm if you like. I would fish them like the jigs, pitch them into pockets. Quote
porkleaker Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Yep, I start off the morning around 5am when the water is like glass with top water, buzz baits, frogs, mice whatever. Then fish along weed lines with spinnerbait or start using senko as the sun is setting back to top water, as the water usually calms down, mostly go with hula-poppers and nail them every time. Quote

I would fish them like the jigs, pitch them into pockets. Bingo. Especially the weightless flukes. Couple of my favorite small lakes get completely weeded over late May/early June every year. At the peak, I can't even get a boat on them. But before and after the peak, when most people ignore those lakes, I'll get out and drag a fluke across the tops very successfully. ......Thanks to Bassresource's videos, flukes have gone from zero confidence bait to full confidence bait. 1 Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 i fish a pond that gets loaded with weeds and algae. the best things i have found that work are t-rigged weightless soft plastics, shallow diving cranks, and top water baits... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Rage Shad, Toad, Menace and Craw. MegaStrike Cavitron and your favorite topwater lures. GYCB Kreature, T-riiged and fished like a jerkbait. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 30, 2014 Super User Posted May 30, 2014 Now your in my zone, submerged weeds. 1. Mepps timber doodle size "0" silver blade white trailer. Or a gold blade with a chartreuse trailer. It all comes in the package. I cast it out and drop it into the open weed pockets. It's a weedless lure. 2. Mister Twister top prop. It's comes with a trailer and a trailer hook. Cast it out reel it slow, or a 1-2-3 pause. Let it pause over the open weed pockets. Weedless. 3. Plastic mouse. Weedless. 4. Floating worm no weight just a hook. 5. Split shot rigged worm. 6. Popper rebel pop r. 7. Spook, walk the dog. Quote
