TrapperJ Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Been wanting to upgrade my DT hooks i know some have mixed feelings about the sure shot vs the regular. But i want to make sure I understand everything on the sizes too. Came across a Bassmasters article saying that on the DT06 "comes with two No. 6 hooks," when i checked the rapala site it says the DT 6 comes with a No 5 & 6, but doesnt state which hook is the front or the back? http://www.bassmaster.com/blog/modifying-your-crankbait-hooks# The article says to upgrade the front hook a full size, to a number 4 and the back to a 1/2 size which says is a number 5, so I'f im understanding this correctly Odd numbers are 1/2 sizes? even being a full size? Can anyone confirm that the DT6 has two 6, or a 5 and 6 and which is which? im not near my tackle box to compare at the moment. Thank you! Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 The front hook will be the larger of the two. Yes they usually go in even numbers so odd sizes are what's considered a 1/2 size. I can't help with what a dt6 comes with stock though. I use 2 of the same size when upgrading. I also use the mustad elite trebles. Those things are sharp! Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 I just bought 6 Dt 6.... They are all sporting size 6 trebles... Nib... Older ones came with a rear sure-set hook... Not sure on its size... I have changed the front to a size 4 VMC hook off of Xcalibur xcs200's which were upgraded to mustard triple grip short shank... I left the rear hook on the dt6 1 Quote
TrapperJ Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 we have been having the dreaded fish loss during some local jackpots on our DT6, we feel we are doing everything right on working the fish in sometimes they just toss the lure and get off so its frustrating and the only other thing we could think of to help improve our odds is to upgrade the hooks to help out. Super User F14A-B Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 I did put a # 4 on the front and back of one... But I haven't swam it yet... So not sure if it will swim right....but the bigger 4 on the front I know helps.. Quote
jhoffman Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 a lot of stock hooks are insane bad, you start buying good hooks in different sizes and youll see how they get ya. Oh you want a 4? Heres five hooks! Quote
David D. Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I upgrade all treble hooked lures to Mustad Elite short shank hooks... As has been said, they are sharp and they certainly get the job done. But I always just make the front and rear the same size (both size 4s on my DT6s). Quote

On days like that it helps to have a wimpy rod laying around. I've got a Dance Class Quantum rod that is wet noodle that I throw when fish are coming unbuttoned. The sure sets are wonky, but they stick the fish as well as any other hook. Quote
