dalbarran Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi, I am new to the forum. I know different rods have different purposes and many anglers carry multiple rods with them but I don't have a boat. I do my largemouth bass fishing mostly from the shore and I only want to carry one rod. I do own others. My fishing style is mostly pitch-casting plastic worms, jigs and other finesse baits (<1/4 - 5/8 oz lures). Occasionally I will flip-cast a jig or worm if I need to. I will rarely use spinning baits or top water lures but if the worms or jigs fail me I will give them a try. I am 5' 9" and I don't like fishing with a 7.5 foot rod. I currently use a 6 foot rod but feel a 6.5' or 7' will give me greater casting distance. My current rod is old and am looking to make an nice upgrade. The wife gave me a new Shimano Core 50mg7 and I am looking for a very nice rod to go with it. I fish with 12# mono. Don't care for braid. I've fished bait casting rods for over 25 years but haven't bought a new rod in a while so I am a bit dated on where to look these days. I'd like a rod with very high sensitivity. I don't care for the split handles; prefer full cork. My budget is in the $400 range. Can anyone provide a single presentation rod recommendations with action and power suggestions? Thank you Dan Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Dan, Welcome to the forums. I've sent a PM as well. It looks like a 7' MH (or Medium depending on manufacturer)/Fast rod with a nice light guide train is what will fill your need. The Core is sweet reel and will be part of a nice setup. The point of diminishing returns on a factory rod is closer to $275-$300 IMO. Be wary of paying for name, unsubstantiated claims and expensive replacement programs called "warrantees". Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Having a 400$ budget... I am most defiantly having a custom build done. Quote
Hogsticker Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Option # 1, have Mike build you a rod. Option two same as the 1st. Option 3 would be a Kistler Helium IMO. It has full cork handle options and built on an NFC blank with Fuji SS alconite semi micro guides. They build there rods clean so no need to worry about crooked guided or epoxy sag/over run Quote
LMB KING Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 A IMX G.Loomis med-heavy 7 foot rod is perfect for you Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Having a 400$ budget... I am most defiantly having a custom build done. Agree. If you're going to be just carrying one rod /w you for very specific presentations. Get one exactly built how you want it to perform. 400$ will get you a very nice custom rod. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle is currently building a rod for me very close to your pricing point. I expect this rod to be comparable in every way to a much more expensive G.Loomis NRX. Give him a call and discuss what you want. http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 X all what everyone said, that will build whatever you want,,,,,I would only spend that kind of money on everything my way!!! The only way to do that is talk a professional builder, I am building one now and when done there wont be a factory rod made to compare to it,,,,,and I won't have over 400 bucks in it!!! Quote
