hb2392 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 So since I started buying different rods for different techniques, I need some advice on which lines to use. I've always used Trilene Big Game, and it has been a good line, but I believe there is better out there. I recently experimented with Seaguar InvizX and love it, but I spooled the whole reel with it because I didn't know what to fill it with, and spooling the whole real with flouro is too expensive for my taste. So what do you guys suggest? What should I use for topwater/jerkbaits, senkos/t-rigs/jigs, pitching/flipping? What should my fillers and leaders be? I have no experience with leaders, so whats the best knot or way to connect your leaders, best line for a leader? I would like to try braid for a filler or leader, I have never used it, and don't know what to buy. Im not fishing real heavy cover, some grass but not much, more trees than anything, but who knows I may find some good cover to fish, just haven't yet. So any info would be greatly appreciated. Just bought two new Lews Mg's in 7:1 and I have 2 Revo S's in 6:4, and 2 Silver Max's in 6:4 if anyone has suggestions which one to spool or use for which technique. Quote
livetofish28 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I fish braid with a fluorocarbon leader all the time it is the way to go if you ask me. I use the Alberto knot and really like it. the UNI to UNI not is good also tight lines Andrew 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Tuf-Line #30/ #12 AbrazX/ Alberto Knot. I start with about 3' of leader and replace as needed. Quote
playmaker47 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 For some reason I've had problems with the Alberto knot breaking... I m tying it correctly as I have watched many videos on this. I started using the Albright knot and problem solved. Quote
hooah212002 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Another option is just using cheap line as spool filler so you don't have to fill the whole thing up with the Invizx. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 I mostly use braid but when I do use a nylon line I don't really have a brand favorite that I swear by. Fishing a grassy area I'm not sure if abrasion is major issue, but if stealth is a concern try a f/c leader. The albright or alberto knots work very nicely and they are thin profile knots. Myself being a braid user I generally use a swivel, reason being in case of a wind knot where I need to cut off line, the albright can be tough to tie with a light braid when it's real windy. Additionally I don't carry trim tools, the swivel just is more efficient for me. Quote
