I've been using a Mitchel 310 for a few years and I hate it. It's constantly getting tangles and knots. I've use mono and braid. I've tried putting less line on the spool to no avail. I have ZERO problems with my other reels. I'm ready to move on! Any suggestions on a decent reel? I don't want to spend a ton of $$.

Thanks, Todd

Take a look at Pflueger, good reels... Good price!

I've found the $50 price point to really be the over/under for spinning reels.  Those above have all been good value -- those below...generally not so much.   That said, I've got a Mitchel 310 which I have found to have been pretty decent value - but it's less than a year old.

You may not want another Mitchell, but the 300 has also done me quite well (for over 5 years now.)  Pflueger President has not given me any problems.  Shimano Sienna has been a tank and hasn't failed, but the Sedona is so much smoother.  I've got an Abu Cardinal that's about 6 years old that is as smooth as the day I got it -- but I see a range of Cardinals nowadays, so I'm not sure what is comparable today.  I would think that a Cardinal in the $50 range with 6 or more bearings would be great.

Thanks for the replies. I've got two Plueger presidents that I like. I may look at one in the UL size.

Thanks, Todd

IMO you can't go wrong w/an Okuma Avenger B.  I've had one for several years on a 7" ml rod and have not one complaint about it.  For a $40 reel, it has 7 bearings, a really nice/smooth drag system and performs like a reel at least three times its price.

Cabela's has the Pflueger Summit on sale for $20 off....$59.9 regular price for $39.99 on sale.  No experience with this model, but all other Pflueger reels I have owned have been good values.

Cabela's Tounament ZX is also on sale...regular price $69.66 for #39.99 on sale.  No doubt some research will turn up a few others in your price range.  Good luck, and let us know which reel you decide on.

Keep an eye on ffo tackle. They periodically get presidents in for under 40. Got mine from there and I can't tell that its a refurb.

My U/L reel is a Pflueger Trion and I love it. At $30, it's a great deal.

Have read good things about the Trion spinning reels.  I have a couple of older Trion baitcast reels, and as far as I am concerned, they are another under-rated reel.

I ended up getting the Plueger Trion. Very nice reel for the money.
