KSRonH Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Looking at purchasing a new tackle bag to better organize tackle in my boat. Currently have two soft side bags and lots of loose plano boxes. I would like feedback if you've had experience, ( good or bad ), with any of the three choices I have narrowed it down to. Looking at Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro series magnum bag, Flambeau's AZ8, or BPS's XPS Stalker bag. Leaning towards the Cabelas but your feedback is appreciated. Thanks! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2011 Super User Posted March 24, 2011 Been using a couple of AZ8 bags for a couple years. One of them was tournament bag for all of last year, as a non boater. They're decent, especially on sale at Gander., I think I paid $50 for them. A couple things: the bungee on the top is long gone, one has a tear in the clear "map pocket" in the lid, you'll want to drill some drain holes in the bottom, and if left open the bag droops a bit, making it a little tough to zip up. Mostly an issue on warmer days. All in all, a decent bag, and has outlasted many, many other bags. Like them so much, I added a smaller AZ4 and AZ6 for short shore trips or as a guest on another boat. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted March 24, 2011 Super User Posted March 24, 2011 I have been through a lot of tackle carry options (and spent a lot of $) in the last 40+ years and I finally settled on simple, cheap and low tech. I think it's the best solution if you organize your baits in Plano boxes. These are only $13 each at BPS or Cabellas. Ronnie Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 24, 2011 Super User Posted March 24, 2011 I have a bag in the Cabela's Advanced Angler series and have been very pleased. I made my purchase based on what bag best suited my needs with respect to size, number of pockets, pocket configuration, etc. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 I downsized from a large 370 bag to a 360 - about half as big. Just tired of lugging a bunch of stuff that I rarely use in the course of a day on the water. Made me do some serious planning for each trip. Now I keep all my plano boxes stacked (and labeled) at home; and switch boxes per location and techniques I'm going to target. Makes switching baits much easier and efficient when on the water. And it has actually increased my fishing time. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have the Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro Series Tackle Bag in the size Super Magnum. Awesome bag! its $60 without the boxes and holds 12- 3700 size plano boxes on the inside. with some waterproof compartments and zippers. A place for pliers, and extra places to put other things. The bottom is a hard molded plastic to sit up and keep the boxes good on the inside. i defiantly recommend the Cabelas advanced angler bag, dont know how big your lookin. The Super Magnum is huge but its really tight! Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I got the BPS stalker bag. It's great cause it came with all the boxes... still not sure if it was suppose to or not. Quote
jeremyt Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 x2 for the stalker bag. I bought one this past winter and I absolutely love it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 Browning is the only bag I have owned that the zippers didn't fail, also well built. Quote
JacobK Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I use the Shimano Boat bag, It fits a huge plano that fits all of my soft plastic bags (maybe 50 bags+?), 3 plano 3700 boxes and a FTO 700 jig box. plus it's pretty much waterproof. http://www.***.com/Shimano_Banar_Boat_Bag_Medium/descpage-SHBB.html Quote
brophog Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I've grown tired in recent years with some of the hair brain decisions the fishing department of Cabelas has made, but they still know outfitting and their Advanced Angler bags are worth every penny. Definitely my recommendation for a bag. Quote
bwell Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I'm on the market for one also, I need to be able to fit at least 5 370 boxes and a spinnerbait box in the bag. It looks like Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro Series Tackle Bag, or the Browing top loader are the bags that fit the bill the best. To the boaters out there, do you think either of these bags would be to big to bring on as a co-angler? Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 The BPS XPS Stalker Rigging Tackle, XPS Stalker Tackle Bag and the XPS Front Loader Tackle bags are all very nice and can be purchased with or without boxes. I have the XPS Front loader and it holds 5 3700 boxes and 2 3600 boxes on each end as well as a big compartment on top for storage. Very versatile bag. SJ Quote
basser89 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have the Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro Series Tackle Bag in the size Super Magnum. The Super Magnum is huge but its really tight! I've been using this same bag for about 2 years now. Great bag in my opinion too! Definitely not one for shoreline fishing! LOL! Along with the (12) 3700 series boxes, I also have (3) 3600 series boxes in the two outside side pockets and the front pocket as well. No complaints with this bag for sure! Well worth the $$$$ for this one! Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Just bought a Advance Angler's bag, too! Quote
Cire Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have the Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro Series Tackle Bag in the size Super Magnum. The Super Magnum is huge but its really tight! I have the same bag and agree with the reasons. I would go with the biggest bag that you can because for some reason they always end up full! Eric Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 I've got a bunch of different bags and when I was fishing as a co-angler, 2 medium or medium small bags seemed to work out better than one big bag. A - it was easier to get to specific stuff and B - the smaller bags seemed to stuff into available compartments better. One bag would primarily have stuff that I was pretty certain that I was going to need. The other bag would carry back up stuff and stuff that I might need. I carried several heavy duty velcro straps and strap my primary bag to the seat post on the back deck. That way I was the only guy who was going to trip over it. Rods - that's another story. I would always tell myself that I would take 3-5 and I ended up never taking less than 8. Quote
blueultra2 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I bought the magnum Cabelas Advanced Angler Pro Series Tackle Bag a few weeks ago. I looked around for a while checking out the different bags and this one seemed like the best option. It's put together well and looks like it will last a long time. I like that it has hard bottom on it. The only downside is that there is so much room and I don't have enough tackle to fill it, well I guess that's a reason to go do some more shopping!! And another plus was that it was 25% off at the store!! I paid $60 with all the boxes. I also bought two smaller plano boxes to go on the sides. I would highly recommend it to anyone! Quote
dman Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 heres the backpack i use, very easy to organize....Boxes on the bottom and the top portion is where all my bags of soft plastics go. side compartments for tools and things. http://www.tackleexpress.com/calcutta-framed-tackle-backpack-en.html Calcutta Framed Tackle Backpacks are designed for anglers who demand quality and performance. Super User CWB Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 If you can find this, snap it up. http://www.fleetfarm.com/catalog/product_detail/fishing/tackle-boxes/bags/okeechobee-fats-deluxe-large-tackle-bag I got it on ebay, less the boxes, for $19.99 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Holds 8 370's, 1 360 on each side, As many plasics as you can fit in the back compartment, plus has a spot for your sunglasses and a small compartment in front that I keep terminal tackle in a midsize plano. Might hold more than you'll ever use, but if your like me, you just feel nervous if you don't have as much as you can with you in the boat. By far the best bag I have owned. Quote
shootermcbob Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have the cabelas advanced angler magnum bag as well. I like it...alot. heavy duty, has "rubber" type bottom, zippers work well...still on all compartments, and has place for more than I would want to carry. The only downside to it is it seems to get heavier and heavier...the more stuff I am forced to buy. ;D Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 26, 2011 Global Moderator Posted March 26, 2011 I just got the BPS front loader stalker bag. As a co angler I have to bring everything with me, and this thing can do just that. I love the divided compartment on the top and the external tool holder. The front loader is different but not that big of a deal. The color is kinda funky but what the heck. Only thing tho, this sucker can get heavy. Mike Quote
royal0014 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Bigger isn't always better...duh For the last few years I've been bank fishing with a off the shelf backpack, complete with wheels and pull-up handle. 1 3750, 3 3650's, worm binder, even had room for a small fold-out camp stool! Not too heavy, and worked great. But last year, when I finally got my jalopy of a boat in the water, the bp just took up too much real estate, esp. if anyone was with me. Really small for a 14 footer. So, this year I decided to downsize. Figured I could cull the camp stool Price being very important, I settled on the new Plano Fishoflage bag available at Wallyworld. They have three sizes, large/small bags and a fannypack deal. I got the smaller of the two bags. Seems to be well built, thick canvas, zippers are fair. Comes with 4-3650 boxes. Two front pockets, side pockets, clear plastic zip-up under the top. Shoulder strap is a little long for me, and can't be removed. One of the front pockets has a little pocket for your license, and a velcro doohickey for a minimag, clip for keys. Nice.... I was able to cull my selections down to 3 of the boxes, with room for the worm binder. Really made me consider what I use on a trip, and what was dead weight. Unfortunatly, I have not got to use it on the boat yet :'( Lack of tow vehicle sucks! And I've only had one chance to go hit the bank. But the new bag was great. Just my .02 worth 8-) Quote
