I fished the fluke today using my revo premier and caught one.My first fluke fish.I was using the zoom super salty fluke.I was kinda walking the dog action. It was darting side to side then let it die like I would a banjo minnow back it the day.Same thing pretty much is the fluke and banjo minnow just different systems.A fluke is hard to put on a hook.I was using a 5/0 ewg gammy hook.It tore that plastic to pieces lol. They are not durable at all.I wonder if the strike kings version are any better.I wonder what is the best fluke type bait out there.

My personal favorite: BassAssasin Shad Assasin.

I have a couple packs of the SK Caffeine Shad. They're not very durable because they're extremely soft. Still more durable than a Senko though not by a whole lot.

They have very good action because they're so soft. Their tails are more like a finesse worm tail, so really it's almost like you're fishing a finesse worm with a bulkier fluke profile. I wouldn't discount the normal Zoom Flukes though, since the V-tail and rudder belly can be good for times when the bass are looking for a more subtle, gliding+twitching type presentation.

Zoom super flukes. Try a smaller hook 4/0 offset or ewg is what I prefer although you good get by on a 3/0 if you want.

I use zoom super flukes and I can get anywhere from 1 -30 fish on one fluke the little dinks seem to tear em up worse. My car is littered with old flukes all over the place lol.

zoom super fluke with 5/0 ewg gama. 90% of the time i will twitch it feverishly so that it breaches the water as if a bait fish trying to escape. the gambler stud is just as good. watermelon seed and watermelon red are the only 2 colors i throw. great effective bait.

if you like the fluke...give the swimmin fluke a try!! ;)

I just bought some swimmin flukes in white today and I cought about 4 fish with it and then went to a senko it get the non aggressive fish.I caught the biggest fish on the swimming fluke. My berkley scale said 2 pounds and 11 ounces was the biggest.other was around 2 pounds but fat with eggs.Looked like she was fanning beds cause her tail was torn up.I released all of my fish.I even cut the line to get cause I didn't want to kill the fish.So the hooks will rust off and it wont kill the fish.I fished about 3 hours and caught 6 fish. The swimming fluke seems to sway side to side when reeled it is that what is supposed to do or does supposed to stay straight all the way.I ask cause I maybe hooking it wrong.I was using a 4/0 gammy offset ewg hook I got at work.

Zoom Super Fluke is all you need. :)

Tiny Flukes are killer on the dropshot though, so you may want to get a few packs of those too.  ;)

I fish with all the Zoom Flukes, from the 4" Junior Fluke to the 7" Magnum Fluke.

All have a purpose, but on balance the Zoom 5" Super Fluke is the most useful.

My choice of hook is based on 'sink rate' and 'zigzag action'.

For the 5" super fluke: Gamakatsu 4/0 Round-Bend Hook (15-grain hook x 0.053 wire diameter)

One thing that helps Super Flukes last longer is to lube them up with an oil based fish attractant like Kick'n Bass.  Instead of tearing up, they will slide right up the line.

I missed the durability' issue raised by the original poster...my mistake :-[

Actually, I have no complaints at all about the durability of the Zoom fluke.

Like any soft-plastic bait, catching fish is going to shorten its life.

Otherwise, a fluke can be cast for hours (days) without the need for replacement.

When it gets sloppy on the hook, I'll re-rig the bait to create a new tighter hole.

Inverting the fluke and rigging it upside-down is like starting with a new bait.

As for lubricating soft plastic baits, I don't think that's a good idea in heavy cover.

Above all, I don't want weed-resistance to cause the lure to shift on the hook.

Once the lure starts slipping on the shank, it's no longer a weedless lure.

BTW:

Since I use braided line, the hook is not Texposed or Texskinned,

but is deeply buried in plastic.

I'm not following you here Roger.

The purpose of the lubrication (I use Megastrike) is to allow the bait to slide through and over cover better, without resistance, as well as helping the plastic slide out of a fish's mouth a bit easier.

The way I read your reply is you feel lubricating plastics leads to the bait sliding on the hook?   :-?

Just trying to clarify...

You make an excellent point.

Actually I was responding to the post that preceded mine:

lube them up with an oil based fish attractant like Kick'n Bass.

Instead of tearing up, they will slide right up the line.

That's exactly what I'd like to avoid. It seems that once the lure

slips on the hook-shank, it takes that path of least resistance, more and more.

This forces the angler to reposition the hook, more and more.

As you point out though, lubrication also reduces the lure's resistance in vegetation.

I guess the tradeoff boils down to the question: "Does lure lube help the bait

slip through vegetation without also helping the bait slip on the shank?

I sure don't know the answer.

One other thought, although I'm not sure it has anything to do with lure lubricant.

If I had my choice, I'd rather my lure was banging around in the weeds,

instead of slithering through them.

Gotcha.

I know you are fond of the paddle tail tubes, try throwing some Megastrike (or whatever "greasy" attractant you prefer) on the sides of those and see if your bait doesn't get torn up from the fish's mouth a little less than it does now.

I have noticed it help greatly when throwing the big soft plastic baits, not only in getting the hook into the fish's mouth but also for prolonging the life of (relatively) expensive baits.

Take Care.

Thanx Speedbead.

Lately though, mediocre fishing success has been a great lure preservative for me :;)

Sure hope that changes real soon.

Try a fluke rigged sideways and also a MANNS shadow is great for a very subtle approach

Max is right on the spot with that trick. Not many bass have seen a sideways moving jerkbait. I use a #1 Owner mosquito hook rigged through the side and out the middle of the back.

No how do u rig it wacky.I have gammy finesse hooks and weedless one's.Do I rig it like I would a senko or do I rig it in the side then move the hook to the on top of the bait.So I dont hook all the way to one side to the other like u do a senko
