Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Stupid computer told me I'm grossly over weight. I mean I realize I need to lose I little over 55 lbs. However, telling me my ideal BMI is 190lbs?!? Apparently, normal people at 6ft2in weigh 190lbs. I'm so scared and confused now! I lost 10lbs last week and am now down to 307. So I'm slowly making progress to achieve my goal. My problem comes in that once I hit 240 I generally have a six pack showing. My arm size has increased in diameter since my last fitness attempt. I don't know how to achieve my normal weight. I mean 240 still puts me 50 lbs over weight. New diet plan. Maybe if I subsist off of cold porridge and creek water for three months I will get closer to my goal. I hear tapeworms can help with this too. I hear they are quite dangerous though. I've thought about amputation too. I mean surely if I hacked off my legs I can fit into this ideal weight range they have set before me. Unless they factor in wheelchair weight too. Then I'm gonna have to cut off my arms also. I know being a stump with no arms or legs is a serious price to pay. However, I just want to be considered normal for my weight. I mean the insurance companies and everyone else are setting these healthy standards for us to fit into. Surely they know what is best. I'm just so scared of not being considered normal!!! And not fitting into the mold they have set forth!!! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 It really depends on how you're built. At 190 I would look like a string bean being 6'2-6'3 myself. i'm 215-220 and I've been told I have an ideal weight. Quote

My doctor has advised that anything below 235 or 240 will result in my losing muscle mass. Quote

gripnrip Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I don't give a rats ass what charts or Dr's say. I'm 6'1 and if I weighed that I'd look more sick than healthy. I look back and at 5'11 when I was a freshman I weighed 180ish. I looked like death warmed over! I'm going for the 230 to 240 range. I don't care what they think and I don't care what I look like. It is all about how I feel! Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 BMI is a bad way of measuring fitness in any except maybe marathon runners. I wouldn't sweat it too much Raider; being normal is not something you're ever going to achieve. I think it is overrated anyway. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 They say I should be 173 which isn't that far off. I was around 175 on deployment but it took doing insanity 3 days a week weight lifting 6 days a week and running daily. I was still "over weight" by today's standards. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 BMI should be takened with a grain of salt. Most running backs, elite ones anyway, will have very low, single digit fat percentages and jacked with muscle and will register as obese. Just remember, muscle weighs more than fat . Quote

Aside from marathon runners, just about every other professional athlete is considered obese. I mean a 5'9" corner (you know those little guys they put on the field so I can be entertained when a big running back ruins their day) at 190-205 lbs. is apparently a larda$$ according to the stupid B(bacon)MI. What kinda moron comes up w/this stuff? 1 Quote

What kinda moron comes up w/this stuff? I agree with this. Many mma and boxers walk around at 10-30 lbs more then there fight weight. Anderson Silva fights in the 185 class. According to reports I have seen. His every day walking around weight is 220-230. Heck heavy weight fighters can weight up to 265. Granted many are 6'4" or taller. Even if there walk around weight is close to 300. I would not call them fat. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 Binge and purge. If it's good enough for supermodels, than it's good enough for you 3 Quote

I am a short, skinny guy (5'9" 145 lbs.) but apparently my bacon mass index is around 25 (which is what THE MAN considers perfect). Quote

Granted this is the one that married the hippo. 1 Quote
STPC Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 For some reason unbeknownst to me, bean poles love some big girls (to be a little more PC, women that are short for their weight). 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 BMI is a guideline really. The best is get your body fat percentage. Everything else is pointless really. I am 5'11" and I fluctuate between 198-202 generally but I am supposed to be in the 175 range....I'll probably drop down to the low 190's as I begin to ride more but never do I want to be in the 170's lol I guess the fact I wear a size 48 jacket doesn't come in to play with BMI.... Beside, all girls I have dated in every pic we took together we looked like the number 11. If I can't fight it, I flaunt it. 1 Quote

tipptruck1 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I know a few runts that are just under 6ft. Both weight about 130-140 lbs. By the way my one arm. Is stronger then both of there arms combined. Do not know how that is possible. Before any one ask. They are fully grown men. Hell one has a killer beard. The other cant grow a beard. My brother is 6'3" or there about. The dr says hes need to gain about 15-20lbs. He is also about 130-140 lbs. Then I know a guy that is almost 7feet tall. He says he only weights about 150 lbs. I weighted about 150 in middle school over 15 years ago. But then again. I was just short of 6ft then. I only grew maybe two or three inches after 8 grade. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 Raider you're twice the man I am literally, I'm 5'8" and 110 lbs, so also not "normal", as crazy as it sounds, I' m on a strict diet, no saturated fats and low cholesterol diet forever, my mistake cholesterol level raíse quickly, which sucks, no butter, no bacon, super lean meats, no shellfish, hell, I can't eat what I like !. 1 Quote
