SCangler91 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I've got a 5.2:1 Bass Pro Shops PQ I need to put on a new rod. Simply put, what's your favorite cranking rod? Thanks Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 Dobyns 705cb glass. Still have an older 72MHM legend xtreme that just doesn't get used much anymore. Quote
rcaddell23 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I don't have a ton of experience with other rods for comparison, but I really like my Veritas Winch. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 St croix avid 7' medium action casting rod. Pretty stout crankbait rod so I use t rigs with it too. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 I've got a bunch of casting rods with moderate or moderate-fast actions and all could be considered "cranking rods." They range from ML to MH powers and lengths from 6' to 7'11". I couldn't identify a single "favorite" without knowing "favorite for what"? Light, mid-weight, heavy cranks? Close quarters, open water, etc. I can say which cranking rod I use the MOST - a 7' medium power BPS Crankin' Stick with a 5.2 ratio reel on it. For your 5.2 PQ - you might get some pretty solid recommendations if you mentioned what type of baits you want to toss and what your price range is.... Quote

I agree, my 7'MM Avid probably gets the most use for bass lures, but I am usually not throwing big deep diving cranks. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-optimus-xlt-dhc-review.html For deep divers, the Lamiglas SR705R is THE BOMB! Quote
down4ttown Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Dobyn's 704CB for me. Best d**n rod in my arsenal and that includes my DX's based on how much I use it. I would like a longer rod in a 5 power though. Quote
Alpha Male Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I like my veritas. I feel that crankbait and spinnerbait rods can be cheaper than my T-rig, jigs, and frog rods. Quote

mmrivera86 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Mine is my 7' M Diawa Laguna rod. Cheapo, but it has done me justice over and over again. Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 No clear favorite, as each rod has a different job. Powell Endurance 695cb Powell Endurance 804cb Daiwa Ballistic 7'7"M. Mod Daiwa Ballistic 7'2" MH mod All of these are good rods, but I like the longer ones for deeper cranks and I like more back bone in my go cranking rods and squarebill rods.... Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 i guess it depends on what cranks ur throwing but you can't go wrong with a dobyns 704 cb glass http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdobyns704cbglass.html 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Dobyns 765 Glass... love it for deep divers and it's plenty versatile to throw all but the smallest cranks Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 26, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2014 I have 3 I use that all serve a purpose, no real favorite 7' MH/M St. Croix Pro Glass-squarebills 7' MH/M Ethos-mid depth 7' 10" MH/M St. Croix Mojo-deep runners or big baits Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 26, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2014 Phenix X11 composite. Its rated as a deep diver rod but I use it for all cranking, including small Sq Bills. Love that thing. Mike Quote
