I hate the feeling of dried cork or eva foam. Its like it sucks the moisture out of my hands, add handling fish in the mix and the end of the day it feels like a need a quart of 5w40 to get my hands back to normal.

1: cork sealer, if it will seal it on its on great if not it might protect it from the next step

2; hockey tape

Thoughts on that system?

I also have a rod the knurling on the reel seat eats up the inside of my pointer finger. I love that rod but Im strongly considering adding a piece of self vulcanizing tape to that area.

I've used the hockey tape before on rods and also played travel hockey for 8 years black tape will gum up more than white I would use white even if it means redoing it to keep it clean. If you can find camo that is the least likely to gum up along with yellow but have a more thin/dry feeling to them. They also make hockey tape that is used for the handle of the stick. it's kinda like that stretchy medical, tape you could tape that on and add a ring of regular hockey tape on the ends to keep it on

Clean them real good and seal them up with U-40 cork sealer, it makes for a nice handle.

Does it take that dry feeling out of it?

I used to play hockey too, loved it, hope my son plays. I was debating on which tape to use and might actually like it being sticky sticky.  Heck I was turkey hunting yesterday and the dry striker of the slate call was getting on my nerves so I rubbed some pine pitch on it.

I do! It helps grip me maintain a more controlled grip on my Glock 19. Started using lotion in the U.S.Army. We all used it and also baby powder on our dogs!

Id prefer to not put lotion on my hands constantly. There has to be a solution. My hands arent dry by nature, I can go weeks without putting stuff on them. Grab a cork rod, land a few fish, go crazy.

U40 cork sealer. It makes the cork a bit harder, so be aware of that if you like softer grips.

Also...you're fishing. There's a big body of water right in front of you. Dip your hands in it? :P

d**n straight. Handle 1000 lbs of striped bass a day, or go fishing for cod, blackfish, and seabass all winter out in the ocean in freezing temperatures without gloves, and then come talk to me. This is the best stuff (Its the same as the old Fisherman's Friend).

I really like tennis racket grip. Wilson Pro OverGrip works really well. Its pretty cheap, doesnt bulk up the rod handle, adds a nice soft grip the the rod and doesnt take away from the feeling.  YOu can find the overgrip in different colors too, which can make it easier for finding a rod in a rodbox too.  I use it on all my rods and cant stand the feeling of a cork handle anymore.
