Super User bigbill Posted May 24, 2014 Super User Posted May 24, 2014 My old faithful penn deep sea and trolling reels are no longer offered in there new line up. These old work horses have been replaced by the newer plastic reels. I'm sure the life span of these newer plastics won't hold up as these stainless models of yesteryear did. But do to saltwater corrosion maybe they will? A lot of saltwater fisherman don't flush there reels the way they should. Does anyone use these new Penn deep sea or trolling reels? Quote
0119 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I have used the Squall and the other small conventional whose name escapes me. They were nice but the little Avet's I've used seemed more rugged. I'd take the Penn over shimano since Penn offers real customer service. Be happy you have the old stuff it'll last until your grand kids are tired of using it. Tons of tutorials on alantani to help you with them and Penn and pennparts.com will have what you need for decades. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 25, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 25, 2014 I been buying the Penn 49, Penn 149 and Penn 349 super mariners. I plan n taking my whole gang deep sea fishing. The rods aren't cheap but the reels are solid like stone. I figure we can do more ocean fishing, well the kids anyway. Quote
