Nope, get the Tournament with dual Braking, it gives you most features of the Tournament Pro with the biggest difference being Brass drive gear instead of the lighter harder Aluminum alloy Gear. For the difference in money I would never suggest the MG over the Tournament w/MBS.

My only 2 Lews reels are a MG Tournament, and a TT pro. Since your asking about the MG Tournament , its a great reel. This reel has become my everyday reel when I bank fish. It has never let me down, and now that I have had it for a while I swear its smoother than when I first bought it.

The tournament mg has brass gears &14 lb drag. It's a lot of mis information on the mg . The major difference is the tournament has dual brakes an the mg holds more line. How I know? I have one was about to get the tournament when the guy at my tackle store advised against it. Told me for the money the mg can't be beat. I am new to baitcasters an I have no problem slinging a lure into orbit while I'm practicing. The magnetic breaks work great as I have nothing more than a few over runs. In fact the guy at my tackle store doesn't even stock the tournament any more. The reason why, people who purchased them and returned them for mg's. Mg doesn't have a rulon drag either. It has the same drag as the tournament up. I done a ton of research every where to try to get a good baitcaster to learn on and I did. Lews Tournament Mg. It's the same as the superduty minus heavier gears 1 ball bearing and a carbon fiber handle. Awesome reel as is all lews reels are.

Like I said, the Tournament is very close to the Tournament Pro, which is probably the most popular of the Lews series.

The spool as you mentioned is one reason I suggest the Tournament over the MG,  the Tournament uses the same spool as the Tournament Pro does, the lighter shallower drilled spool, which give much better performance with lures down to 1/4 oz and lighter as it has much better startup with lighter weight lures. The forged Duralumin gears and one ball bearing being the only difference besides the Carbon handle on the TP, from the Tournament that has dual braking.

The Mg has the deeper spool that is harder to startup and needs more to get it rolling, no titanium line guide like the Tournament and Tournament Pro, Contrary to what your dealer said,,,it does come with the same handle as the Super duty it just isn't anodized,,,,,,Which is the only thing it has in common with the Super Duty!! The Super Duty has a larger frame, and larger spool than the the other three reels we are referring to, and a much more robust gear system, as said the anodized power handle same as the Mg only the Mg handle isn't anodized, and the Super duty has the titanium coated line guide same as the Tournament and Tournament Pro, and it has 11 bearings---same as the TP,,,the other two only use 10.

So you see it has nothing in common with the Super Duty except the Handle,, and the Magnetic only cast control. The spool, frame, gears, line guide, and amount of bearings are all different.
