(='_'=) Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 hey. i just returned home from a 2 day fishing trip in Mexico's fisherman's paradise. they say a picture is worth a thousand words, if that is true, i guess this picture sums up the trip: day 1 we left home on tuesday at 6 am, and after a 10 hour drive, we arrived directly to the lake. by 5 pm we were on the first fishing spot. this day we only managed 30 bass in 2.5 hours. this was good considering my father had not picked up a rod in like 10 years, and he is new to worm fishing. i had to explain him what it feels like and how to set the hook. he only got 6 fish on the first day after missing a lot of strikes. the majority of the fish were in the 3 - 4 1/2 lbs. we were fishing right in here, so 50 lb braid was a must. another one that my friend got: and one of mine. i dont like using sunblock, so i always wear a buff. fortunately the weather was not as hot as it usually is this time of year. my dad and my friend managed the first and second doubles of the trip right before sunset: another nice one of my dad: day 2 sunrise from the door of the cabin, the lake is right below: this was the biggest one of the trip, a little more than 7 pounds (we measure in kilograms, 3.200 kilos) another double: 1 Quote
(='_'=) Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 another one i got one more of my father: another double i got with my friend: and then a triple, we had several of them in the trip: another double. there were a lot of times we had to net 2 fish at a time (with the same net). one more: a shot of the fishing boat. it was not a typical bass boat. we could have gotten a bass boat but those are only for 2 people. on these boats we could go up to 4 plus guide, but 3 fishermen are perfect. we even let the guide fish for a while. these are the bassboats they have for rent. they are small, but you dont really need much more, the lake is relatively small. (='_'=) Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 day 3 this day we had a great morning. within 2 hours we had boated 55 fish. a 4 pounder and a 4 pound 5 oz after that we requested the guide to go for bigger fish. the numbers decreased considerably but the size went up. this is my biggest fish for the trip, a little under 6 pounds we kept catching 4-5 pounders all day long. we even got some nice doubles and even a nice triple (2 nice fish and a smaller one, but a triple anyways) a nice one my dad caught 1.86 kilos, a little more than 4 pounds a couple more: i just realized since i had the only camera, i have very few shots of myself...anyways, i also took only random pics, as the fishing was so hot i couldnt waste time taking pictures a nice 5 pounder my friend got right before sunset and thats the last fishing pic. this is a shot of the other side of the dam overall we got more than 250 fish in less than 2 1/2 days. even though the biggest one was more than 7 pounder, we missed the really big ones of the lake, fish in excess of 12 lbs have been caught in there. anyways, we had a lot of fun, i caught 3 fish on consecutive casts, and so did my friend. it was really worth it, im already planing to return in november. 3 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 24, 2014 Super User Posted May 24, 2014 Glad you had a good time! How far of a drive is Baccarac for you? Jeff Quote
(='_'=) Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 thanx Mod!! according to googlemaps, Baccarac (Bacurato as we know it) is 14 hours away. the big difference between that one and the lake we visited is the price. we spent less than 1300 USD, between the 3 of us, for 2 days of fishing, including everything, driving, boat rental, guide, tips, food, etc. thats $430 USD each. Bacurato targets American market, so they charge in USD and they charge a lot. i would like to go there sometime for a chance to get a really big fish, but maybe later... Quote
Dead River Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I didn't see a 7 lber in the thread, your fish looks much bigger. still looks fun. if I was gonna go to mexico I'd have to catch some giant fish though. is there a cheaper way to do baccarac? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 24, 2014 Super User Posted May 24, 2014 is there a cheaper way to do baccarac? I can get you any info you want on Baccarac. Not really a "cheaper" way to go. Gotta pay to play! Jeff 1 Quote

Dead River Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 big lake with a community around it. gotta be a way to put in on the lake. Quote
(='_'=) Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 i though i had already answered this post, not sure if i didnt reply correctly. anyways, this is the cheapest i have found for Baccarac http://www.mexicofishing.net/bass-trips-charters/rates-booking.html Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 That is only $100 difference for 4 nights/3days from our board sponsor Lake Baccarac Lodge. Jeff Quote
(='_'=) Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 i wasnt aware of that. if i recall correctly the price of the Lodge you mention is more in the $2000 plus range?? and the one i posted can be as economical as $1300 for 3 days 4 nights Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 The listed price of that lodge is $1495 for 4night/3 day. Lake Baccarac Lodge, which is the premier lodge on the lake is $1595. The economy package at Lake Baccarac Lodge is $1095 and at you place is $1295, so Lake Baccarac Lodgee is actually cheaper that way. Like I have always said, if someone is interested in fishing there, contact me and I can help with all the info and reservations for the trip of a lifetime!Jeff 2 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 I know of the place the OP is speaking of, and it's a quality fishery, for sure, and one to watch, however, it's not trophy ready. If I had the chance, and there was only a couple hundred dollars difference, there would be no question, I'm going to Baccarac. The lake he's talking about is going to turn out some monster bass, but probably not for a few years. It does, however, have a huge population of 5-7lb bass, and much bigger being reported, but not a lot of 'em. Baccarac could already potentially hold a world record bass, and certainly holds a ton of huge fish, including many teeners. Quote

jhoffman Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 If theres that many bass, its gonna need some harvesting to bump the numbers. Theres only so much to eat. Did you try any big big baits? Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Man what a trip I plan on taking the Baccarac trip with my girlfriend, by then she will be my wife, in the next 2 years... I am putting it off mainly for the fact that I want to stick my own double digit bass here in FL, or GA when I visit my buddy's honey hole, before I have a field day in Mexico! Plan on going once with her and then another trip when our 2yr old son gets older, can't wait for that have a little family fish off lol 2 Quote

Did you try any big big baits? even though the fishing is strictly C&R they are allowed to put some nets to get tilapia, and they say the catch a lot of bass in the nets as well. i did try some 10" and 12" worms looking to get bigger fish, but i didnt see any difference in size or number of fish. the biggest fish of the trip was caught on a 6" senko. Dinky Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I would suspect the local fishermen take bass for food. They certainly do at other Mexico lakes. This will reduce the population some. I am familiar with the lake you went to also and it certainly is a numbers lake now. But it will soon have plenty of DD's as long as it is managed properly. As with all package deals the quoted cost usually has a lot of add ons. Quality is always a consideration, but that is difficult to determine without actually going there, then it is too late. If a lake has an abundance of 5-7pound fish, but few DD fish, yet a definite chance for a DD, it seems to me it would be a lot more fun, and economical, to fish that lake instead of one that has fewer fish 5-7range, but more DD, but you may spend a lot of time and money there and not only fail to get a DD, but catch few in numbers. Spending hundreds of dollars and hours of deep cranking without catching a lot of fish, and maybe not getting a DD and not being in a tournament that pays pretty good prize money seems a real waste. Spending less money and less time and catching 5 times as many 5,7,9 pounders, with a chance to catch a DD, sounds like a great trip. I have been down both roads. JMO. Quote
atcoha Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Sounds like a great trip. Made some lifetime memories with your dad, I'm pretty sure he is one happy dad! Quote
