I'm wanting to understand more about different geography under and around the bodies of water that i fish.

Now I know that some structure or geography can only be seen through sonar type tech, but I would like to have a basic understanding of the following; what is considered a flat? a point? channel? and other geography that I may not know about.

Pictures, videos and articles would be greatly appreciated.

I'm at the point where I dont want to just throw a lure and hope I catch something ya know.

I'd like to understand a little better, how, why, and what I'm really doing to catch the fish.

Hope that makes sense!

Ditto!  I know the folks w/lots of on-water experience use these terms all of the time, but the bank fisherman that does not have a boat to have electronics on has a harder time creating a mental picture of what all these features look like.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I love fishing from the bank its great, Ive been seriously thinking of getting a kayak though just to mix it up

Ill probably never own a bass boat or anything like that doubt even if id have a jon boat but a nice kayak wouldnt hurt!

There's TONS of info out there on structure. Start with the articles here and do some Googling.

Some suggestions for familiarizing yourself with what flooded topographical structure "looks" like:

-Search "topo maps" in Google images and spend some time getting familiar with them. The jargon is pretty straightforward.

-As Wayne suggested, look at land as you travel around and imagine it flooded.

-Get to know how deep your baits are and how stuff feels like under there.

-Read about how fish relate to structure.

You have obviously opened a real can of worms there.......Think of points, inside turns, outside turns, and various weeds that usually hold bass as well and sunken trees or deeper weed beds especially at or near breaks in depth......Just a few basics to try.

Remember that Largemouth are an ambush feeder, so weeds, rocks, stumps, wood, lily pads , instead of open water.
