rboat Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 How do you prefer to fish your spinnerbait? Plain just out of the package, or with some sort of soft plastic trailer or twister tail? I am just curious. I normally just fish it plain, but thought maybe I am missing out on an extra attractor. Quote
5fishlimit Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Give it a try and see for yourself. I personally don't anymore as I didn't see any added benefit. If they're gonna hit a spinnerbait I think they're gonna hit it either way. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted May 21, 2014 Super User Posted May 21, 2014 I've only used it bare and caught fish. But I think a lot of people on here use twin tails with success. Quote
merc1997 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 i am pretty old school, and usually fish a trailer of some sort on a spinner bait. i have seen way too many times that when using a trailer it eliminated bass slashing at the blades. i just feel that the trailer concentrates their attention to the business end with the hook. i have seen many bass caught without a trailer, but for me personally have had a lot more success with a trailer. bo Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 22, 2014 Super User Posted May 22, 2014 I don't have any reason other than I just don't typically fish spinnerbaits with a trailer. Quote
nascar2428 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 No trailers needed here in the clear lakes of Michigan, at least that's what KVD says. Stained water and muddy water he says by all means but a trailer on it. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 22, 2014 Super User Posted May 22, 2014 The spinnerbait is my favorite bait and I've tried thousands of different combos and actually make my own since '98 because I got very specific about the application. Anyway, I have used them with and without and all I found a trailer to do is keep it higher in the water column and the major cause of short strikes, but that is in my water which isn't too dirty. I'd try to use it both ways and see what works, there are times when a trailer can enhance the bait but I feel more confident without a trailer and if it makes you more confident to use one then by all means, use one. einscodek Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 You can burn a spinnerbait faster usually without a trailer but I always put one on and customize my spinnerbaits Bought a clearance batch of bomber spinnerbaits from Wallyworld last year and have a lifetimes supply for spinnerbaits and parts now. Super User bigbill Posted May 22, 2014 Super User Posted May 22, 2014 I use the mister twister 4" split double tail grubs as a trailer with a trailer hook on all my spinnerbaits. While it's moving it looks really to be swimming. Quote
