stiko97 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I don't have enough braid to fill my Black Max reel, but I want to do some frog fishing I just don't have money to buy a spool of braid right now. Can I tie a braid leader onto some 10lb mono that's already on my reel and be able to set the hook? Sorry if this is the wrong section, didn't know where to put this :? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 21, 2014 Super User Posted May 21, 2014 A braid leader won't be long enough to change your hook setting ability. How much braid do you have available? Quote

You should be fine as long as you aren't exposing the mono backing every cast. They do have some braid at walmart for about 8 dollars a roll if you are ever able to pick some up. I believe thats the most cost effective one. Quote

I always partially fill my spools with mono backing so I can split a filler spool of braid on 2 reels. I was at a local Walmart tonight. They had Power Pro in 30# and 50# for $9 and change for a 150 yard spool....enough to do 2 reels with. Quote

And what know should I use to hold the two together? Quote
