Super User Felix77 Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 Makes my 5.89lb PB Smallie look like that lure. LOL 2 Quote
jhoffman Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I just dont see 9lbs, if thats a 9lb fish I have boated 10s that I have never weighed and I know thats not true. Id like to believe it but my gut tells me no. If so, thats a 4lb fish packed with 5lbs of roe. 3 Quote
jhoffman Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Did that fish look bigger than that sack of potatos? Almost double? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 21, 2014 Super User Posted May 21, 2014 Awesome fish! What lake is that? Eric is a guide in southern Wisconsin. He fishes a ton of lakes in the area. That's all I'm going to say Quote
BassObsessed Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I caught a 5 and a half pound smb and I'm looking at that pic to compare but different camera angles. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted May 21, 2014 Super User Posted May 21, 2014 That thing is a toad. Definitely looked full of eggs and food, I can't even imagine one that size, my pb smallie is right around 3.75-4lbs Quote
ChrisAW Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I'm not going to doubt the weight, but what I find funny is such a well known guide and a guy who has been on TV many times doesnt keep a decent scale around? That thing is janky. 3 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 21, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 21, 2014 I'm trying not to doubt the guy but it just didn't look it to me I guess. It's a beast no doubt, but when you keep holding it a foot away from the camera it makes it really hard to tell. Like others have said, why do 2 guys, both sponsored by Berkley, not have a decent digital scale in the boat? I guess I always though those spring scales read from the top (still would have made it an 8+lb fish), and not the bottom of the marker? I just can't see that fish being half a pound bigger than this one. Trying not to be a hater or doubter here, but my skeptical side just isn't letting me accept that as a 9 pound smallmouth. Maybe it's because I've never seen one much bigger than half that size. Maybe because they look so much different than largemouth at that size, but I just don't see it. 2 Quote
mod479 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Woah. First time seeing this....and I'll say look at the size of that fishes mouth relative to his hand..... looks like a 5lb frame full of eggs/food. Wouldnt doubt 6-7lb, but 9.....well you'd think he woulda put it on a decent scale before creating an internet sensation. haha 1 Quote
Janderson45 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 That thing is a toad.. but I'm sorry there's just no way it's 9lbs... 75% the size of the world record... ok that might not sound like that much of a feat, but when you consider how often you see smallmouth that look this size range, and not to mention fish (like posted above) that clearly look bigger than this one? That would make pictures of numerous smallmouth bass I've seen on here pushing 10-12 lbs and world record status? Doesn't add up to me.. I'm no expert and obviously it's hard with just images of a fish, but If I were to guess myself I'd give that fish 6lbs. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 22, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 22, 2014 Bluebasser86....that is a goergous fish! Wish I could claim it, but that fish is 2 pounds bigger than our state record Quote
Zippyduck Krimm Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I have an officially weighed 7# on the wall from the 80's and I can see that on being about 8#s plus not quite a nine. Quote
