After recent fishing trip...I became frustrated with fluoro.

I used kvd conditioner the day before but it only helped a tad. I didn't get many overruns but the few I did I had to strip down to my mono backing as the fluoro kept springing out the further I went.

My question is...If I go all braid then how can I save my fluoro already on it for leaders?

Hand wind it onto an empty filler spool or most any thing round,  you could probably use a 1 liter pop bottle if necessary.

What Aavery2 said ... First though Montanaro - what pound test Fluoro and what type of reel ? If spinning and anything over a thin 10 lb fluoro then you have a problem ...If baitcaster then not a problem with better fluoro lines such as :  Sufix , Sunline , Seaguar , P-Line , etc.

Im sure you know my feelings on fluro. I fished copoly and braid all weekend in crystal clear water in cold front conditions and caught a ton of fish. Its all hogwash in my mind.

Congratulations Montanaro! The first step is admitting there is a problem.

Visibility is but one aspect of FC line, what you have to ask yourself is why do the Pro's use FC line, I mean this is how they make a living, and lost fish can mean the difference between a paycheck and a long weekend.  If there were no benefits to FC line it seem unlikely the Elite fishermen would trust their livelihood to it.

It's 15 and 16 pound. 16 is sniper 15 is invizx on baitcasters.

The sniper is much better than invizx...but the one overrun I had I had to take it all the way to backing and spray kvd on it every few cranks. Ruined cast and my lil boat drifted into good cover.

Seems much easier and better casting to go with just a fluoro leader.

So I need to grab an empty spool and put line back on? Just got the sniper...Hate to lose 100 yards of it.

Tried braid to flouro leader on my worm setup about a month ago and never looked back. Line memory is a thing of the past. :)

My only complaint is where you have to join the two lines together and I was a little nervous that it would knock one of my guide eyes out while casting. So far so good.

Just send the sniper to me. I'll put it to good use for ya.

I must confess to some scepticism when it comes to fluoro. Last year on the tournament trail (team format) every rig I had was spooled with braid -- even my finesse rod. Fished mostly clear lakes, never finished lower than fourth and won our classic. Granted, I wasn't fishing against KVD but still.

Outside of one tournament where the bite was horrific, never had a problem catching fish with braid. Now my example is worth precisely what you paid for it but I have found that braid doesn't seem to be the overwhelming factor. I'm sure it can play a role but I think less then some people think. Of course, that's why I'm fishing in a small trail in northern Canada and not the BASS or FLW top events :-)

So of course to screw up a good thing, this year I have fluoro on my crankbait setups, mono for my jerkbait and top water rods and I might use a fluoro leader on my finesse stuff... because I can't leave well enough alone :-)

Congrats on the classic win, and sounds like you had a good tournament series last year.     I don't think that anyone is saying that braid prevents you from catching fish.  Heck you could catch fish on yarn if you had to.  I think the debate is if braid is a good choice for all situations.  My thought is that it is not the best choice for every situation,no more than yarn, and no more than FC is the right choice in every situation.   Mono, Copoly, FC,braid all excel when the line is matched to the situation, rod, reel and technique.   It's good to have choices.     When you finished 4th, did you happen to see what line the other guys were using? JK   I am sure there were a lot of variables.

1/4" carriage bolt 4" long; wing nut and 2 washers... tighten spare filler spool onto the bolt between the 2 washers with the wing nut... place bolt/spool assembly into a variable speed drill chuck... slowly spool line from reel to filler spool.

Did you have spool of line come over the top towards reel when you spooled the line. If you did it vice versa or sideways that could create a issue. Think, the insides of a cassette tape.

if you wanna keep the floro someone suggested to me that they had some el cheapo reels they kept around for the soul purpose of spooling line off of another good reel to keep it on the el cheapo for leader or whatever else they needed to take line off for and wanted to keep it around

I did it right. Still doesn't stop the occasional springing.
