bigredxlt Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Have any of you guys seen counterfeit senkos? Last year I bought a bunch of senkos on ebay because they were in bulk and were a little bit cheaper than retail. Over the winter I realized some of them do not have GYB marking the egg sack part of the worm. Is this marking only on the newer senkos? I was watching Crime Inc. on msnbc last night and it was all about counterfeit goods. I figured heck if they are making counterfeit extension cords why wouldnt they make fake senkos that sell for just under a dollar a worm. Maybe I am just paranoid Quote
Stasher1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I have some that were bought from local retailers with and without the markings. I also have Kinami Flash with and without the GYB markings. They're probably fine. Quote
ROCbass Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 If they catch fish I wouldn't worry about if the ones you already have are real or not. If you have any doubts, just buy from somewhere else next time Quote
Super User deep Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 I recently bought a bunch from Ebay too. 7 packs for $20 shipped. None had the GYCB marking, and seemed a little longer and a little thinner than the actual senkos (I had some from last season). They tasted salty enough though, I actually licked them When I threw one into the water, it sank as fast as a real senko, at least I couldn't tell a difference. But the Ebay one had slightly more shimmy on the fall. So I contacted the seller, but he swore they were original yamamoto baits. Quote
bassmasterdb33 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 If they were hand poured or hand injected you would know the difference. I can come real close to the sink rate and wiggle of senko, but you can never match there plastic. Plus the top of the senko would be cut off from the mold and a real senko has a little indent in the top Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 If they came in a bag marked as GYBC, then maybe the thing to do would be to send a bag (and the purchase info.) to the man himself. I'm sure Mr. Yamamoto would be glad that somebody clued him into a possible problem. Quote
Five-Alive Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I seem to have the best luck with senkos and the kinami flash but have caught fish on other brands. Yum dingers, SK ochos, etc. I bought one of those 50 packs of "senkos" from eBay and they were definitely not the real deal so I use them for pond fishing and they do fine. I save the real deals for tournaments!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 It must be something new cuz I 've got a huge bunch of packs of GYCB Senkos and none nave that GYCB mark on the eggsack you are talking about, Kinamis do have the wave. Quote

Actually did a taste comparison and they tasted pretty salty haha. And of course they swore they were the original baits its highly illegal to conterfeit goods! For a price that cheap I would be highly suspicious. Quote
bassmasterdb33 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 yamo do make different lenths. Post a pic of those senkos out of the pack and what color listed on the pack. I'm interested in seeing these things. Quote

I bought 70 senkos (or senko style baits), all of the same color, and they came in a ziploc bag, and I paid 20$ shipped. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 I think senko has come to mean any bic pen style worm, not just the GYCB one. Unless the seller specified GYCB, then I would assume they were another brand, or maybe homemade. Not necessarily a bad thing, I have bought some really nice homemade soft baits on ebay. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 You can tell, like someone said, by the tip. It'll be dimpled for the real deal, anything else is a copy, and yeah, there are counterfeit that are sold as GYCB. There's a guy here in NE that is guilty of it. Quote
ah_long Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 how's the action on them? I find with the real ones, when you wacky rig weightless, the two ends quiver during the fall... Gambler senkos also displays the same action... another thing I also notice is that the GYB has a softer/mushier plastic Quote

Yea the seller claimed they are GYBC and they came in yamamoto bags. I will check them out for the dimples. Good advice. Quote
bigredxlt Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 I also started comparing the yamamoto craws that I bought on ebay and I notice that there are some differences. For example on some of them they have long antennae and others short antennae. Now I wonder if this is a change them made over the years or if I got tricked again! > Quote

TrippyJai Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 The senkos have a distinct smell as well as action like no other. They are heavily salted and a bit mushy compared to other brands. I bought a pack of senkos from a local tackle shop which didn't have the markings on the egg sack, but they fish exactly like the senko. Here is a picture of the 4" senkos I bought this year at BPS compared to last year. There is a small size difference. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 As I said, it must be a new thing senkos having marks on the eggsack I can 't say because it 's been a while since I purchased senkos ( notice I say senkos, real GYCB senkos ), those you purchased came in a GYCB bag, mine don 't have any marks on the eggsack so those senkos could be old senkos ( like mine ) before they came with the marks on the eggsack and not necessarily fake senkos.
