I didn't see any post like this from conducting a brief search so I figured I could make one.

 

Given what you are fishing for and the category, what're your GO-TO lures? Whether you're fishing for bass, pike or catties; post 'em up.

 

Bass

Topwater: Boo Ya Pad Crasher; Zoom Horny Toads[zero luck with either yet this year, frustrating]

WINNER-->Jigs: Mister Twister Yellow Twister Tails[bounced of bottom or brought up through moving water. caught all my bass & walleye with it this year]

Cranks: Minnow Crankbait; Rebel Crawfish

Drop Shotting: Watermelon Finesse Worm; Senko; Leeches[zero luck catching so far, had one bite with a senko]

 

I see all this talk about brush hogs and what not so I'll definitely have to try that out as well. I recently got a jig with the skirt and put a trailer on it but I haven't had success yet but I love the way it looks so I'll never give up on it. 

 

Also, when I drop shot; I don't use a palomar and tie it directly to my line. I use Eagle Claw Baitholders with the pre-tied hook and tie that on my line with the weight below it. Does anyone else do anything like this? 

 

Hopefully I lure ya'll in to this post rather than spook ya'll.

On your topwater lures are you adding a scent to your lures?

Topwater, top props, spooks, torpedoes, mister twister top prop.

Cranks, bomber, redapplecraw, dark green craw, baby bass orange bottom, shad, from shore the 0-3' are ok. Rebel BIG CLAW crawfish crank chartreuse, rapala f7 orginal floater in blue or black. I try to keep my shallow running cranks around 2" long when I can.

I use brushogs on my 1/8oz Carolina rig with a eagle claw weedless hook. I try to use weedless hooks on everything.

Yep - I agree - from bonefish, permit, grouper, sailfish, lm,sm, spotted bass,trout, crappie and on and on it is the lure for all seasons and all waters. Or as my old mentor said "learn to fish a bucktail jig and you'll never go hungry".

Also, I do not scent my top waters. Am I missing something by not doing that?

When it comes to bare bones you only need 3 lures:

 

1 .- Spinnerbait

2.- Jig

3.- 5" curly tail grub.

So in clear water, what color spinners should you be throwing or what type?

My top baits are watermelon 3/8s jig, and a watermelon gold flake senko wacky rigged. If you have those two then your set for a day on the river

My top baits are finesse drop shot with wth any 4 1/2" worm. Mostly roboworm. If I were to pick a color it would be green pumpkin, margarita mutilator, Aaron's magic.

3/8th oz flipping jig with a rage craw trailer.

After this spring, my favorite lure is a 1/2 oz arky jig in black/blue. I've caught them pitchin shallow, dragging deep, and swimming it just below the surface. This jig can do it all. Of course, I do reserve the right to change my mind tomorrow.

So in clear water, what color spinners should you be throwing or what type?

 

A 3/8 oz single Tennessee silver blade white & chartreuse skirt is what you see me casting 90%of the time I fish with spinnerbaits in any water clarity condition, which brings this question: "if that´s what you fish 90% of the time you fish with spinnerbaits then why is it you carry enough spinnerbaits in all sorts of colors, weights and blade configurations to sink a boat ?" well, better have and not need than need and not have.

Here is my strategy and confidence baits that I have tied on to start any day...

 

Early Morning- Floating Jerkbait-Bomber Long A, Original Rapala Balsa Minnow, Bagleys bang O Lure, Cordell Redfin if windy, and if I can fish a suspender, it is a Pointer all day long, or a Suspending Long A, Rogue if I want it to dig deep. Floating Jerkbaits allow me to use them as a topwater or subsurface, or over or near submerged weeds and I can follow up with a small Skinny Dipper or Gambler Ez swimbait or 4-6" finesse worms like a roboworm or zoom.

 

Always ties on besides 3-4 colors and sizes of floating jerkbaits.....7" Senko, Jig with soft craw as trailer to flip or swim, bladed swim jig like a chatterbait-subwoofer, 4" fat albert zoom grub, or swim Fluke if need some more bulk or lift and some paddle tail action....

 

Go to lure to throw any time...Sebile Flat shad 77 Suspending. Amber Fashion, Gold, Chartrueuse liquid filled patterns are my favorites, and also love a sebile crankster as my square bill...

 

Spinnerbaits, Lipless cranks, Fluke and sticks, 10-12" Ribbon tails always ready to go....I drop shot if fish are inactive or fussy, usually any 3-4" soft plastic in green, Junebug and some chartreuse will do the job, or small craw-Rage Tail Lobster and 3" craw is fantastic no matter how you want to fish it. It catches bigger fish for some reason, and I have only used it 2x now, but it is deadly behind a good chatterbait.

If down to one bait, it would be the Berkley Red Shad power worm. I'd catch fish.

Top lures, how about bottom ones.

The bait I dislike the most is a plastic worm.  While being very productive I find it to be too productive, I don't feel challenged.  I don't care to fish that slow and I prefer a harder strike.  I go out of my way to use some sort of top water or subsurface bait, that style of fishing is just more exciting to me.  I'm not interested in numbers or size when it comes to bass fishing, just having fun does it for me.
