Jdm219 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'm in the market for another baitcaster and I need a little help. My max budget is around $160 for the reel. My options are lews,Abu, or shimano. So I just need input. Or I could turn the tables and buy another spinning setup. choices choices choices. Thanks for the help! Quote
Diggy Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 You'll probably have more Lew's options at that price Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 Shimano curado I 7.2.1 @ 179$ but I hear plenty Good about the Diawa Tat's also... Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 At this price range it is almost easier to just decide what type of braking you like the best and find a reel that uses it. Reels in this price range are very competitive with one another. Quote
Arv Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 You should be able to find a Lews TP for under 160 if you shop around. IMO, easily the best bang for your buck when you find them at that price 2 Quote
Jdm219 Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 I've been using a pro qualifier. What's the difference in braking? Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 Centrifugal, Magnetic, Dual, SVS, and Magforce are some of the more popular styles of braking. You will have to do some research to see where one has an advantage over the other. Quote
Mike2841 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 For 160 I would get the tatula. I've used shimano, abu, lews and daiwa and that tatula wins hands down for me. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 Well d**n. Which is the most favored? I can tell you which one that I like, but you need to understand how each works and see which would fit your style of fishing the best. This is not something someone can tell you IMHO. Quote

ZB85 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 you can get a Daiwa Tatula on Amazon for around $100. Thats what i would do. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 I'd get a Curado 200I, especially with the memorial day sales coming up. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 I'd always pick spinning, I'd spend tops $100 on a freshwater reel to catch sub 10# fish. Pick a brand and model you like, they all perform well. Quote

My last reel purchase was a Lews Tournament Speed Spool that I found for about $110. It has magnetic and centrifugal breaks. And I love it! With your budget, you should be able to get the Tournament PRO, which I think is basically the same thing but lighter. I'm not 100% sure on that though. What I do know though, is that however much you decide to spend, you'll get a lot of bang for your buck from Lews. I can't really speak about the other companies from experience though. Quote
robster80 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 lews tp can b had for 148. that or the mee curado i Quote

DaveT63 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Don't forget that TW currently has the T3 Ballistic on sale for $110, and if you can stretch a bit more, the T3 for $198. Both great deals. Quote
Jdm219 Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 I'm going with a lews. Probably on a mojo bass or something like that. 40lb braid with a leader. Maybe Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 The new Curado I has received rave reviews. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I found that the Revo STX is one of the best bangs for your buck. It comes in three speeds; stx 6.4:1, stx-hs 7.1:1, or stx shs 8.0:1. If you use Ebay I highly recommend BigFishSports! They always have the best price (150.00) and are rocket fast in delivery. If I were to buy one this morning (Tuesday) I would have it Thursday! I've bought 5 from them and have yet to have any kind of problem! They also have other brands... I know I work hard for my dollar so I try to stretch it as far as I can and I've spent hours shopping for the best price available- they are the best price I've found yet! 1 Quote
Jdm219 Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 As much as I like other reels, a curado g6 isn't bad for $120. But lews seems like a perfect reel Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 As much as I like other reels, a curado g6 isn't bad for $120. But lews seems like a perfect reel if you enjoy your Pro Qualifier you will enjoy a Lews, internally they are the same design and use the same type braking. The Lews is a smaller profile and weights less. Quote
