B@ssCrzy Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Participated in my second kayak tournament ever. Crazy day it was....So by 9:00 a.m. I have three pictures (kayak tournaments do combined length, catch, photo and release) of fish 2-12"'s and a 14" for a total of 36 inches. I was happy because now that I had my three fish I could start hog hunting. About 10:00 a.m. I hooked into a monster. Got her in the boat and started taking my pics with my iphone. After taking my last pic I moved my hand down to reposition my phone and the fish kicked sending my phone into the water!!! So I basically just threw my live-well into the water. I still had the big fish so I stuck her back on my line and paddled across the lake with my pole between my legs to a fellow angler. He ended up having a camera and seemed just as excited as me that I caught this fish. He took the pics for me and was able to bring it to "weigh-in." Was 20 inches. I went ahead and weighed her and she weighed 5 3/4 lbs. Had I been able to turn in my other previous pics I would have come in 2nd place. Shows you you can't make big mistakes like that and expect to win. At least I got the big fish prize and it was the first time I had won any money. So I am still stoked. Even though my phone cost more to replace than I made. Quote

STPC Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Doesn't seem like the smartest method for tracking your catches (I understand you need proof in a tournament) when kayak fishing. Mixing electronics (cameras) w/kayaks (pretty much everything else in the kayak is as wet as the kayak) is just not a bright idea in my opinion. Quote

Works great all over the country in most kayak tournements and even some bass (boat) tournements now. Op- I know the phone hurt and replacing it sucks. But you know now what you must do. Either get an otter box and lifejacket for your iPhone- or get a waterproof camera. Wtg on the big fish! 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Nice! I have an Olympus under water camera that I try to use rather than my iPhone. The lanyard on the wrist goes a long ways, if you can rig up a lanyard on the phone to get around your wrist, that should eliminate the problem for the most part. Quote
