hzzhangc Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'm looking for a better quality 2 pieces spinning rod because sometime I went out with my kid the infant carseat makes impossible to put 1 piecerod in my car. I've played St Croix Avid in BPS and really like it. I looked the website and see the 2 piece mode so I'm wondering does anyone has the experience with 2 piece mode. Other suggestion would also be great appreciate. Quote
michang5 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I have the 2-piece St. Croix Premier spinning rod and love it. I briefly bought the Triumph 2-piece, but quickly exchanged it when Cabela's got restocked with the Premiers a day later. Better guides, made in the US, and I wanted the split grips that are exclusive to the Cabela's Premiers. I would expect the Avids to be even better. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I prefer one piece if at all possible, but regardless which I have to use 1 or 2 piece,,,,,,they will always say St. Croix and made in the USA on them!!! Any Avid rod will be a great choice and compare favorably to any other rod of the same type (one or 2 piece) in their price range! All Premier and Avids are one piece handles and reel seats,,,,,,,,, Quote
hzzhangc Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Thanks for all replys. After upgraded all my casting rods to cumara I feel not very comfortable using a Cabela's $50 spinning rod. Gander Mountain has $50 rebate for Avid I think that's a good deal. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 I have Avid spinning 8' ML moderate 2pc rod its been excellent. Solid connection never a worry about it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 My rods are 1 piece, but not my fly rods and have no problem with them. I don't care if a rod is made in Katmandu, if it does what I want and the company stands behind it, that works for me. Quote
Hogsticker Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 You said high quality? An option would be the new Cabelas XML spinning rods. If you really want a high quality two piece blank with quality SIC guides you will need to look at the Japanese market. St. Croix makes some decent SCIII two piece blanks, but they aren't fantastic IMO, but still good. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 They make a few models with SCIII material, but the Avid uses better hardware and carries the Lifetime Warranty,,,,most who have tried one will attest to the fact, for the money you wont buy better period. And it is made in the USA, Park Falls Wisc. hard to beat unless you want to spend twice the money! Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 Yep.... Not a thing wrong with a 2 piece Avid spinner rod.... Not a thing Quote
DaveT63 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If you really want to go high quality (and high dollar) St Croix also makes several 2-pc rods in the Legend Elite line with their SCV blank. I have the 6'6" MF 2-pc and I really can't tell the difference between it and a 1-pc Legend Elite rod. Great rods, but it will run you a good bit more than an Avid. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 I could fish with any fishing rod that's cheap or expensive at first. Now fishing rod actions and tapers are so refined and tuned for using certain lures now. I'm finding out one rod can't do it all. I feel the rod manufacturers are doing the work and selecting for us. They tell us we use this rod for this bait. The only choices we have is do we want a one piece rod and what length. When we define it more it's what action and taper? It can be confusing to someone that's new too bass fishing. I remember the day the ultra lites first were the hot ticket to have for trout. We didn't have the selection we have now. A medium action would cover most fishing. Now it's how much do you have to spend. I been fishing with $3 to $5 discounted older stock fishing rods all my life. I was happy to have a fishing rod. Now I'm up to the better $100 rods on sale for $50. Little by little I'm seeing the difference between the price and quality. Quote
