200racing Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 i have a friend who works for a charity. he approached me about doing a fundraiser tournament for them. the charity runs a home in Honduras that helps girls that were trafficked and exploited. they also do prevention education. a local trail director has agreed to help with the weigh-in,rules and launch. he said that 50 boats is a good goal to shoot for. what i am trying to figure out is fee's and payout. the guy helping suggested $100 entry fee and a separate big fish pot. reasonable? i was thinking $20 for BF with the chance to $200-250. would you buy into that pot? the next thing to figure is payout. again the guy helping suggested a big first prize like $2k to draw people in. I done some looking at other non fundraiser tournaments. they seem to normally payout 1 spot for 5 boats is 1 spot for 10 ok for a charity event? i was thinking.... 1.2000 2.1000 3.500 4.300 5.200 does this sound good? any feedback is appreciated Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 What is the goal that your friend has for this event? Could you increase the number of places paid back with merchandise prizes in place of cash? Can you find support with local businesses that would be willing to donate to the cause? Could you use some of those prizes to run a raffle over and above prize money? Here's an idea for a pay back schedule: 1st $2,000 2nd 750 3rd 500 4th 300 5th 200 6th 100 7th 50 plus merchandise ($50 value) 8th - 10th Merchandise only ($50 value each) Additional raffle - $1 per/ticket or 6 for $5. At least one very good prize that will enhance ticket sales and more smaller ones that increase odds of winning something. Big bass pot is okay, but you're collecting $1,000 but not staying within the payoff percentage. Most BB pots payback 100%, so maybe consider merchandise for a portion of that payback. Quote

My guess is that almost everybody will get into the BB pot. Good luck with this project. Quote
jhoffman Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The more places you can pay out the better. Knock the top prize back to $1500 and go down from there with placing further out. Even if you only pay five more places with that $500 it will attract more people. In a 50 boat field, making top 15 should at least mean going home breaking even on entry fees. You still lost money on gas, baits.... This is going to attract some people who are not as confident. The less places you pay out, guys start thinking how good they really are, especially at $100. papajoe222 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Whatever way you decide to go, good luck. Anytime someone uses their love of the sport for a good cause, it is an indication of social awareness and values rather than the self centered stigma that is sometimes associated with competing for money. Charity events will draw more than just competitors, you will get entries from average, week-end anglers that love the sport and want to contribute to the cause. If you know of a celebrity or professional angler in your area, you may want to consider adding the chance to fish with that person for two hours, depending on the tournament's length, to your agenda. This will add to the number of those entries. Just an idea. Quote
