I've been thinking about picking up a couple for a while now. My local DSG has the Triumphs for $100 but i haven't heard anything about them. So does anyone have a Triumph and want to give me a review? Also the Premier and Avid I have heard good things about. What would you guys suggest?

premier/mojo/triumph aren't "bad" rods but they have fell far behind the recent influx of quality 100$ rods on the market. If I were in that price range i'd personally look elsewhere. The avid is a great rod for it's price.

I believe the Mojo and the Triumph are made overseas, the Premier and Avid and everything above and still made here in the U.S.A.   For moving baits the Premier would be a good lower cost alternative, if you plan on fishing contact baits check out the Avid line for the extra sensitivity.  My .02

The Triumph was first made in china... The rods

We're good quality.. Unsure what year 04 maybe?

But at some point they(st.croix) invested in a plant

In Mexico ... Rage, mojo, triumph.. Are made there now... At first Croix was making the blanks

Here and trucking them down, and then back.

Quality was terrible... But is better now... Also the

Blanks are rolled in Mexico as well. I would really

Look hard at them... But look hard at other stuff too! Good luck.. My personal cheaper rod is ***.... I know it's a great rod! I like my American made rods best.... $$$!!!!

In my opinion the premier is the best rod on the market at this price, no frills but solid St. Croix performance. I would suggest at your price quest, spend a little more and get an Avid, the best bang for your buck over any rod, after over 25 St. Croix rods in my cabinet I would buy nothing else, and  with all the quality rod models from St. Croix made here in Park Falls, and the track record for customer service,,,,,, I would never look anywhere else for any of my fishing rod needs!!  :naughty:

The Mojo and Premier are the same blanks but the Premier is made in WI and the Mojo's are made in Mexico. I really like the few Mojo's I have and I've heard people think the Premier's have a little better balance. I'd probably go with the Premier if I were you. I doubt you'll be disappointed with it. Another great thing to remember with St. Croix is they have one of the best, if not the best customer service in the industry! I absolutely love my Croix's from my Mojo's all the way up to my Legend Xtreme's!

If at all possible I'd pay the extra for the Avid. The Premiers and Mojos are good rods and stand up to a lot of abuse, but not very light or sensitive. I've owned several Premiers and Mojos but have upgraded to mostly LTBs.

I've owned 1 st croix, it was ok, to it's merit it was light compared to some other rods.  This rod was an 8' mh Tidemaster 1/2-2 oz lure weight which was pretty much what I was looking for.  I used the rod 3 days before returning it, didn't catch anything too big 10# snook may have been the top fish.  Something about the rod just didn't feel right in my hands, it casted fine and landing fish wasn't a problem either, just something about the feel  I didn't like, the 5 year warranty wasn't really a deterrent.  During this same period of time I purchased an 8' mh Terramer, this rod lasted about 20 minutes before I returned it, nothing wrong with the rod but a f/taper didn't meet my needs.  I go back to my stand by Chinese made rods, some of them are close to 10 years without a problem, lifetime warranty if needed but have never needed to use it.  My criteria may be a little different, I'm looking for rod that casts well and does a great job handling fish.  I have caught quite a few 20-30# so far and one tarpon about 70# on my new stick, that gets a passing grade from me.  I do use smaller versions of these rods for freshwater, I'm not the only down here using them in fresh, they excel in that area as well.

A few years ago I'm fishing next to a buddy on the beach, he had a st croix.  Tried my rod and reel for a while, the next day he is sporting my identical rod and reel, haven't seen him using that croix in a long time.

Triumph, Mojo, and Rage are all made in Mexico; Premier in the US. I do find that the US rods have better build quality, but that's not to say the others are bad. Triumph rods are good rods for the money. They're not as light or as sensitive as some other rods in the price range, but the build quality is generally very good. I have a couple for catfish, when sensitivity isn't as paramount. They have held up really well.

I think like folks say with G. Loomis, you're not really getting the "Loomis" experience until you get to the IMX line (I'd argue GLX myself, as the IMX didn't impress me); you're not getting the St Croix experience until you get to the Avid series. They compete favorably with just about any sub-$200 rod. Any of the Legends are just fantastic rods. The lower end rods are good, but there's options that are equal or better for the same money.

triumph for 100 is not that good of a deal, you can find them places for 70. i have a few of them, and i like them quite a bit... I prefer split grip, so the mojo is more attractive of a stick to me... honestly though either the veritas for 70, the *** for 100, or the compre for 100 are better choices in this price range...

It comes down to your budget. I'd swing for the avid because I like them over the premiers.

Exactly what he ^^^^^^^ said. If the Avid is out of budget then go premier. I would not go below that.

Gander mountain has a st croix rebate going on now. $50 rebate on an avid or higher

I have 2 triumph rods, and I'm not really feelin them.  I was hoping for a smoother casting rod than what I got.  They are better than some of the rods in the same price range, like Skeet Reese rods, but I wish I would have just bought Duckett

I have a St. Croix Triumph medium spinning rod, seven foot long.  I really like it.  I think it is built very strong.  And since its supposed to have the same blank as a Premier, that's only a plus.  Actually, I enjoy the Triumph so much I might add another one to my collection some time.   I paid $70 for mine.  I would not pay more than $70 though.  If I had to pay more than $70 I would probably jump up to a Premier.

I just got back from The St Croix store in Park Falls WI. Picked up some Premier rods from their "B" stock. Those are rods with slight cosmetic blemishes for $60 each. The $200 Avid B stock rods were $120.
