MassBass Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 My revo sx that i just got repaired the end of last season is screaming horribly on the cast. There is deffinetly some friction in there because it is restricting distance. I really don't know how to work on this real, i don't even know how to take the side plate off. Maybe BPS has a cheaper reel repair deal than the place i shipped it off to last time. Wut should i do here? Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 18, 2014 Super User Posted May 18, 2014 Buy a better quality reel.... If you're sending it off For repairs a second time.... I know that's not what you wanna hear, but repair costs, shipping, Over a couple times of that and boom you're Just going to be thinking on a replacement anyway.... I do wish you luck on getting back to Fishing... Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 Look into how to disassemble the reel and then flush you bearings. Then re-oil them and reassemble it and I'm thinking you'll be good to go. It's really not a big issue to fix at all. If you're really having a hard time with it, look into sending DVT. He post on here all the time and from what I hear, he does really good work. He's also offering a 10% discount to bass resource members. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 Dry spool bearings. I had a reel doing this yesterday...a little oil made it quiet right down and improved casting distance considerably. Quote
John G Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 . Wut should i do here?Send it to Mike at DVT. He is a sponsor here and he knows his trade! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 A dry bearing can make a screech but 9/10 times the noise is something else especially if it came on suddenly. If you had centrifugal brakes I'd say look there, but that's not the case here. There's really no way to diagnose without seeing the reel. No need to replace the reel. If you'd like to send it in include your screen name and I'll apply a 10% BassResource.com members discount, bringing the cost of service down $19.80. Let me know if you have any questions. Quote
MassBass Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 I found out how to take the plate off, so i did that and took the spool out and lubed up the bearing, as well as the brake and the worm gear while i was at it. I haven't been on the water yet to see if the problem is relieved. In the meantime i pulled the trigger on a new reel, the bps tourney special. Thanks for the offer DVT, but I want to learn how to work on these reels myself, however you are close so if i have a major problem i could ship it down to you. Quote
