Super User A-Jay Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 WTG ~ They just needed someone to believe in them. You did that. And you guys didn't beat the best team in the league - you're coaching them. Congrats. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 20, 2014 Super User Posted May 20, 2014 Well, that win leaves you as the only undefeated coach in the league. Congratulations. 2 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted May 21, 2014 Super User Posted May 21, 2014 congrats man! kids need a coach who has a passion for the game, the less they see the irresponsible side of life the better. look at what you did with only a couple days of positive attitude and having faith in themselves. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 21, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks guys, much appreciated. There was a runner on first and 2 outs in the last inning and the batter hit the ball to the shortstop who made a really nice play, we were instructing "2, 2, 2, 2", meaning throw to second base. Well a slight bobble of the ball and over it went for a close play at second. It seemed like an eternity, both sides of the diamond quiet, you could hear a pin drop in the stands, finally, the ump yells "you're out!" The kids went wild, throwing their hats and gloves in air, the parents clapping as hard as you could imagine and it was like this collective exhale came out from everyone. I've been receiving some really nice text and e-mail messages the last couple of days. I guess I really didn't know how badly the kids really wanted to win or how bad team morale was. Oh well, the game on Friday has been cancelled due to the Holiday weekend, so we don't lace em up till Tuesday. Wish the boys luck! 3 Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 22, 2014 Super User Posted May 22, 2014 Good luck...I rooting for them 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 7, 2014 Just wanted to close the thread by letting you know that the kids lost a best 2 of 3 playoff series tonight. The series went 3 games with all 3 games being close thrillers. Tonight we lost in the last inning 4-3. The last 4 or so regular season games and playoffs were incredible. The kids were coming to the field more excited to play and this playoff series had them believing in themselves. We, my 2 coaches and I, have gotten some really nice feedback from the other coaches, league board members and most importanly, the parents. I could not be more proud of these kids...Mission accomplished. 4 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 7, 2014 Super User Posted June 7, 2014 WTG Jigfishn10! Coaching kids is an opportunity to make a real difference. There is little more important (and increasingly rare) than men and women who lead and teach by example. There is no way of avoiding politics in Little League or life in general, but life is too short to worry about what petty people think. 1 Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted June 7, 2014 Super User Posted June 7, 2014 Deaknh03 I used petty for a reason. I care little what most people think, but there are some whose opinion matters. Relying entirely on my own counsel is a dangerous thing... 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted June 8, 2014 Super User Posted June 8, 2014 Go for it. Make the last four games fun for the kids. Give each some encouragement and tell them two things: 1. Don't look back; and 2. There is no crying in baseball. Now put on your hat and cup and go out there and have some fun with the kids. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 8, 2014 Great job jig way to go! Now enjoy some fishing down time Ahhh Man, I haven't done any fishing since last fall, so you know I'm ready to get out there, but I can't tell you how much I really emjoyed going to the field to coach and playing pepperball with the kids prior to the game. It started out as a couple of kids playing, but by the last game I had the whole team jumping in! Pepper: I know, I went retro, but what a fun way to loosen up prior to a ball game. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 Pepper is fun...,I love the old films of the gas house gang playing pepper and the tricks. I can do a few of the moves lol keep pepper alive coach. Tip of the cap to ya....Connie Mack of little leagues u are lol Quote
