Doug10 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Just wondering if any one else has had any problems with it. It is my second one, first one bought last year, used for about 4 weekends and the tip broke right off while setting the hook. Decided not to send it back and just fix the tip myself. Well this year I decided to buy another one, price just seems right. Got the package yesterday, no damage to the outside of the package, took the rod out and the tip was already broken in the same spot!! I was pretty ticked!!! Ordered it from bass pro on-line, they said send it back and they will refund me in full, which is great. So I email St. Croix, pretty much they told me I needed to upgrade to a different rod. I don't get it, isnt that want the rod is designed to do? As for that I will never buy another St Croix rod again and do not recommend the drop shot rod from them to anyone. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem, and if anyone has a good recommendation for a good drop shot rod? Thanks Quote
central.PA.bass Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 That stinks.. you'd think they would stand behind their product a little more.. I use a Abu Garcia Vengeance.. it is half the price of a Mojo.. and I really like it.. I use the 7' ML Quote
Rangerphil Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Shimano crucial! You will be amazed at how nice these rods are. I have a glx and a crucial both in spinning rods for my shaky heads and I cannot put the crucial down! I love g loomis but this line of rods are amazing, for a third of the price! Quote
Doug10 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 Your the second person to say Shimano crucial, i guess i will have to give it a try!! Thanks I like the Abu Garcia Vengeance also, maybe I will try both! Anyone try the Daiwa Steez SVF Compile, I no it is crazy money, but just wondering if anyone likes it and if it is worth the money? Super User Hooligan Posted March 22, 2011 Super User Posted March 22, 2011 Find it hard to believe that St. Croix customer service left you with "upgrade rods." There's got to be something left out of that exchange. They're likely one of, if not, the top rated companies in the rod making business. I've fished their rods for as long as I've been fishing, as well, I've got rods from Premier to Legend Elite and Extreme and have never had an issue that wasn't taken care of by them in a manner that was anything less than satisfactory. What series of rod are you talking about here? Mojo? Quote
repper Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I've got an Avid 6'8" MXF that broke right inside the tip. I just figured it was something me or one of my sons had done to the rod though, and replaced the tip. Great rod for the money I think. But I too am surprised they didn't offer to help you out,on the one hand, but on the other hand I bet these rod companies get tons of people trying to get them to replace rods when in fact it WAS something the customer did to the rod that made it snap. I'm no insinuating that's what happened with yours, but I'm saying is the rod companies probably do get tons of bogus attempts at free rods. Quote
Doug10 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 Hooligan- Yes it is the Mojo series. And I know they are great rods. I have 5 other mojo series rod and love them, never had a problem with them. And I guess that is why am so disappointed about this one. 2 of the same rods, broken in the same place, seems a little weird, but hey maybe it is just me. Repper- yes i can imagine how many people try to get free rods all the time. Which I am not trying to do, I was really just telling them so then maybe they can try to fix the problem. They are a great company and I love there rods, I guess just not that one...haha Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 Oh, I know they're decent rods, it was related to which price point and possible responses from St. Croix. I'd take them up on the Upgrade. $50 + price difference to the next series of rod. What your breaks sound like, really, are rods that weren't protected adequately during shipping. They got shifted in the tube hard enough to damage the tip, in which case I'd take it up with the shipper. Quote
Doug10 Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 well for this one bass pro wants it back, and yes, most likely it got damaged in the shipping process. But after seeing a broken tip for the second time on the same rod, I think I might try a different rod for drop shotting. Probably will still stick with st croix for all my other rods!! Quote
