today i went to Dicks sporting goods to buy yo zuri hybrid 12#. it will be going on my first baitcaster ever (lews speed spool) and i planned on learning with it because i hear its quality and i honestly dont think it will take me a long time to pick up on baitcasting especially with the spool tape trick to stop extensive backlashes. but i found out that they dont carry it. I didnt know what else to get. i went to pick up suffix siege but i have read some stuff about it snapping. so i put it back. should i just go to basspro and get yo zuri? what else should i look at?

If you have no past experience with baitcasters...

Might I suggest that you use a softer line in

A cheaper product line.... This allows you better

Casting control, saves some money, and when

You do severely backlash... It won't be as painful

Cutting out the Yo- it's not a easy line for beginners , just a friendly suggestion. I have had a hard time finding it even at BPS... At any rate

Good luck!

YZH is strong stuff, and it is also not limp. Since you bought it, see if you can get some KVD Line & Lure conditioner to spray on it, should help it with all the loops you'll find.

I have been using YZH in 15lb test (leader only) some times and am shocked by the amount of line curling even a 6' leader length has.

I cut all my inshore leaders from mono lines, haven't used Yozuri but with all other brands I've used there is curling. Most noticeable approaching the end of 1/4 lb spool, once in the water with a lure on they straighten and limp right out, no problems.

15# Yo-Zuri Hybrid is like a Slinky on steroids.

I put some on a reel yesterday and the only reason why is because I just bought a Deps Buzzjet. I have no fear of losing my new $30.00 lure with 15# Yo-Zuri Hybid. LOL

In another answer I posted (different discussion), I mentioned that the curling doesn't get any better after fishing for a while. YZH 15 doesn't straighten out, unfortunately.

Now P-Line Floroclear in 15# is fantastic. YZH is a different animal.

Sufix siege is some of the best mono out there, you should do well with it. Then graduate to 30 or 40 braid when you get casting down

If you can find Izorline give that a try.

Except don't get the Platinum.  Too much memory for my daughter.  I spooled some Siege, and she is now happy.  Siege snapping is bull.  However, I would use a softer line to learn on.  Sufix Elite, Sunline Super Natural or Trilene XL.  Can't comment on the Seagaur or P-Line Floroclear.

Elite is good line, softer like said. I use it for my topwater setup which is spinning gear currently. I hear the sunline is very good but since finding sufix have yet to venture. My complaint with Trilene or even big game is they seemed to get damaged alot easier than siege on backlashes. Like little kinks or nix in the line

Who said seiege breaks? That's is some of the best and strongest mono. I use it all the time. I have 20# on a swimbait rod and it is impossible to break.

Use some KVD line conditioner, and you won't have that happen.

If you don't mind waiting a couple of days just order it from Tackle Warehouse. They have it $15.99 for a 600 yard spool. That's what I have on all my bait caster's in 12# love it used it for years and see no reason to change. Not sure how people are having problems with it unless they just got a bad spool, mine comes off the spool super smooth.

First time on a baitcaster.... Get some Berkley Big Game mono ... You can learn on it

I just bought 12lb ultra soft yozuri off eBay for 8.99 shipped on a 600 yards spool, received it in 2 days. Look for scissortailsports on eBay out of Oklahoma.

I used 14 lb siege for several years for all kinds baits on med to mh rods. It's good line to learn with. Definitely consider getting KVD Line & Lure. I use it on all my line. I don't use for bass fishing any more, but I do use it for steelhead fishing. Many 6-12 lb. class trout on 6 lb. line. With any line, if it's snapping, you have a knot issue, or your drag is set to tight. Always check for abrasion if your fishing nasty cover, retie if the line gets funky.

Ive seen YZ in walmart stores recently(clear). Id have to go to sports authority beforehand, ones that had a fishing section.
