I am getting very, very tired of these up locking reel seats! Am I alone? I love the blank contact of course but my issue is they are ALL getting janky and don't want to hold tight! I don't want to mess with warranty junk because I have over 14.... Just wanting to know if there's a simple fix? Maybe thread tape or some sort of glue? I actually epoxied a reel on a cumara! Dumb move I know... Don't rub it in! Lol. The cumulus rods are perfect.... Why can't they go back to perfect? Get your act together Robby Gant or whatever your name is! Help!

I've heard of others having similar problems. I had a couple older shimano rods, liked them and never had a problem, but I won't be buying another from the problems I keep hearing about.

I own only 1 Shimano rod I don't care for and I don't think it has anything to do with it's quality, I should have bought the next size up.

I have quite a few of the new shimano's with the up locking design, the only time i have an issue is when my hand is out of position and i am fighting a fish. that being said i always tighten down the reel plenty, and the handle only turns about 1/8-1/16 of a revolution, which will do nothing to the stability of the set up, once i land the fish i just retighten... i wish i wouldn't happen, but it does not effect how much i enjoy fishing the rod...

Not heard of the uplocking issue, but I wonder if the new Crucials will sport a new reel seat design? I've really liked the Crucials I've held, almost bought one, now I have to wait and see what might be released at ICAST.

I love the way they fish too.... And just the thought of ICAST has me slobbering! Lol

A lot of reel seats can be mounted up or down locking so this has more to do with the seat itself and the reel foot. A wrap of plumber's teflon tape around the threads will keep the hood tight, come loose when you want it to and won't leave any sticky residue.

I only know on permanent fix, St,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well anyway there are cures. I own many different brands, most produce more than one type of equipment, but most all only are really good at a certain type, I think Shimano should stick to reels? just say'n    :Idontknow:

When I first got my Crucial, I had the same problem. The seat would loosen and I was scared to get it too tight for fear of breaking it.

The way I solved it was with clear nail polish. Take the reel off and loosen the nut all the way. Smear a good coat of cleat nail polish on the threads, put the reel on and tighten. After the nail polish dries, it will keep the nut from backing off with normal use. However, if you need to remove the reel, you can still break the bond. So far, this has worked great for me.
