The colors are kind of muted, but looks like a smallie to me!

I would rather fish for smallies most any day...

Except for central Florida largemouth... Unfortunately I rarely get to go smallie fishing, anymore. A great fish to seek after!

I would agree, certainly appears to be a smallmouth.  They're great to fish for if you've got a lot of water bodies around that hold them.  I've got far more largemouth lakes/ponds around but often find myself gravitating towards a body of water with some smallmouth also if I've got the option.  Great fighters!

Nice! my first was not much bigger.

 

Most of the smallies I catch aren't any bigger, but man they are fun!  Congrats on your first smallie, hope the future gives you many many more!!!!

Ya the longer you target them the better chance of catching a big un` and now my Pb has gone from 1/2lb-3 1/2lbs..

Hey Mike just saw this today. Congrats on the first one. I'm hoping to catch mine soon. I just found out my aunts private pond down the Cape has smallies. I'm gonna plan on going down there soon maybe you'd like to come down for a day or two. I think it's gonna be awesome.
