Luke at Gouldsboro Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 So, this year I want to use flukes. I know how to fish them, but here's my big question... who fishes them topwater, shallow, deep etc...? also what size weighted hook do you use? Thanks guys. Quote
WanderLust Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 weightless works awesome... Wide, shallow sweep. I also use Owner swimbait hooks if I want to get some depth. Typically the lightest the conditions will allow. and if you're bored try one on a swim jig or chatterbait. Quote
Super User webertime Posted March 19, 2011 Super User Posted March 19, 2011 Look up the "Donkey Rig", I had a lot of luck/fun with that rig. They also work really well with Swarming Hornets, Scroungers, and Chatter heads. I've never really gone deeper than say 6' with them. I'm building up some funky Fluke rigs as we speak, I'll test them as soon as the 20"+ ice is gone. I'll post pix of the good ones. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 20, 2011 Super User Posted March 20, 2011 Double them up on a DS rig.. 8-) I like usin the baby flukes for that...pssst, just keep it a secret...o.k..? Quote
Josh Bassman Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Baby flukes are crazy good on dropshots Quote
Stingray23 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I like to fish flukes weightless. 5" Zoom flukes, 3/0 offset hook, texas rigged. Fluoro line, spinning setup, and I like to fish it pretty quickly. Drives the fish nuts. Quote
MonarkMcfaster Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I like to fish flukes weightless. 5" Zoom flukes, 3/0 offset hook, texas rigged. Fluoro line, spinning setup, and I like to fish it pretty quickly. Drives the fish nuts. My exact some way!! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 I like to fish flukes weightless. 5" Zoom flukes, 3/0 offset hook, texas rigged. I do the same exept with BC gear I probably caught over 500 fish that way last year just be careful if theres them toothy pike around they snaped half em I threw Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I fish them weightless but on a 5/0 EWG superline hook. It gives it enough weight to get down deeper if I need it too but doesn't hinder the action when I want to fish it on top. In pre spawn the bigger fish will usually be under the small ones, so if you can get the fluke down without it getting latched on, you can dead stick it and catch the monsters! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 on another note if you have a weightless fluke rigged on a diffrent pole when frog fishing or zara spook and they miss one of them throw that fluke where the swirl or blow up was and dead stick it 99% of the time you will get the fish. thats also where I hook most of the pike lol Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 Don't forget a small barrel swivel to prevent line twist. Quote
Skeet22 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I recently started throwing a baby fluke weightless with a 2/0 Superline EWG. This gives it a nice even fall like a little sub marine going down! So far they like it..using 8# flouro and a spinning rod. Quote
Punkinseedfyretailz Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 try a small jig and pig with a 12" leader attached to the fluke. Quote

Try threading a shad colored SK Caffeine Shad onto a scrounger. Looks absolutely insane in the water! Catches fish too Quote
