Super User flyfisher Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Well after passing my first two tests in the Praxis series and missing a total of two points and finishing up 15 credits towards my Master's degree it is time to take the second test....the Praxis II for elementary education content knowledge. I am feeling pretty good but i do have to admit after taking all the practice tests i could find and passing all those pretty easily I almost wonder if I am really not prepared...hopefully I get a passing score because they are changing the requirements as of July 1st where i would not only be out of the $115 i am spending to take this test but also I would have to take 5 separate tests instead of just the one that encompasses all the topics. Not a big fan of multiple choice tests in general as I do not feel that test your knowledge as well as other areas and I have tendency to overthink the answers but it is what it is...120 questions that i have 3 hours to complete and the scoring only counts right answers, not wrong ones so guessing is completely appropriate. Anyways just thought i would share.... Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Good luck Bud, my fingers are crossed for ya! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Thanks...i think this is the last set of tests for certification so once this is done it is all smooth sailing....well except the whole working and classes and family and training rides and oh yeah, fishing once in a while lol Quote
ROCbass Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 If you're doing well on the practice exams you've been taking you'll likely be fine. When I took my School Psychology Praxis, I found the practice tests more difficult by far than the actual test. When my wife took her Praxis (the PLT Early Childhood) she didn't do much preparation and was worried about how she did afterward because she's been out of school for a while and there was a lot of theory and history of education things on there she hadn't seen in a while, but she still did fine. Good Luck! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 15, 2014 The one i am taking is the elementary content knowledge one so it doesn't have all the theory and history of education pieces but that part i would do fine on given all the classes I am taking lol I just hope there aren't any specific dates in the history portion because while i know in what sequence things happened i am by no means a date guy. Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 I doubt there will be any specific dates. I have found that most of the history stuff is cause/effect. For example "Why was the battle of Gettysburg considered a turning point in the Civil War?" Seems like an easy question, but as you have already stated, multiple choice can be deceiving. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 I'm sure you will do just fine. Good luck! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Don't worry, you are going to nail it. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Don't over think the answers-or the test! You've done the work, so just pass the thing and move on! Good luck. Quote
spartyon8 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 When I took the content test (k-9 education), it was all pretty straight forward stuff. There was nothing too complicated in it. I, like you, went into it being a train wreck and came out just fine. Granted this was 10 years ago, but I am sure it will be fine. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Well test complete...I have to retake it though. Well that would be the case if a 180 wasn't enough but since I only needed 143 to pass, I think I am good Thanks for all the well wishes guys 1 Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Good luck! I took mine several years ago. I'm in my second year of teaching now. Quote
bocabasser Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 good luck on the test. after 15 years of teaching elementary school, i'm out. i'm buying a pool route and doubling my salary with only having to work 3 days. i love teaching, but the politics/behavior/common core/racism/disrespect have started to jade me. i wish you lots of success and happiness in the teaching profession. spartyon8 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 i love teaching, but the politics/behavior/common core/racism/disrespect have started to jade me. i wish you lots of success and happiness in the teaching profession. It is sad when this is what is deterring quality teachers from this field. I am currently in the "rethink" mode of my career even though I love what I do. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 15, 2014 I totally see your point about the politics of it all but after being in the corporate world for a while now there are plenty of politics involved there and at the end of the day, I am making someone else money and not really making any difference in the grand scheme of things. I figure if i have to deal with BS i might as well be doing it while i can help to teach some kids. And even though I have no issues with common core standards, it is something i don't have to worry about as my state has not, and i doubt will, adopt the standards. Quote
