Headed on a family vacation to destin on August 24. Love the area. Usually family vacations include golf for the men and beach/shopping for the women. Afraid my plans will be different this year though. I have surgery coming up to repair a ruptured Achilles. Dr says that golf will likely be out and I won't be happy with the sand at the beach either. I am now looking at other options to spend a day or two. I have never been deep sea fishing and not sure I can deal with the potential sea sickness. Would like to hear some feedback about in shore fishing charters or even better some place to bass fish preferably with guide somewhere reasonable close to the area?

I go to Destin/San Destin every august or September and stay in the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. There is 2 golf course and at least 2 dozen lakes around the courses and grounds that are stocked with bass. Best part is that you can fish (catch & release) in any of the golf course lakes and 90% are accessible without having to get on the golf course. If you don't stay at the resort you can still fish. Technically I think you're supposed to stay in one of the many condos or hotels but you can "visit" Baytown Warf which is an outdoor shopping and dining area. I would just go to Baytown Warf and park in the public parking area, grab a few rods and tackle bag and just start walking the grounds and fish the abundance of lakes/ponds. No one will bother you or have to have armband/card to show your staying there. I've done this many times even when not staying at a condo/hotel there. I've caught a ton of bass, averaging 2-3 pounds and caught 5-6 pounders as well. Give it a try and you'll have a blast
