EatSleepBass Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Okay so this past weekend I picked up some jigs. I got some 3/8 strike king bitsy bugs and strike king heart attack 3/4 oz both black and blue, I got some black and blue KVD perfect plastics trailers. I also got some green pumpkin jigs and green pump rage tail craw trailers, yesterday I fished the bitsy bug and KVD trailer without a single bite ( I fish ponds from a john boat water is pretty dark and muddy) anyway I've never really fished jigs and was looking for some tips/tricks and how I should fish them. There are lots of thick grass beds and hydrillia and I was also wondering if I need to use any different type of jigs and trailers, all help is welcome, thanks for your time! Quote

Mccallister25 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Well a 3/8oz is one of the main sizes I throw, so as far as the size is concerned; that should be good for you to start with in ponds. As far as trailers are concerned, some peoe like to match the trailer and jig color, but it's not necessary. Id say 85% of the fish I catch is with jigs and I never match the color of trailer to jig. Thats a matter of personal preference. Throw the jig around the banks, and around any kind of structure you see. Dont be afraid to get into some nasty stuff with em. I dont fish deep water, so I wouldn't know where to start helping you with that aspect. I fish neighborhood ponds for the most part, and I catch my jig fish around the banks, drains, grass, any kind of structure you see, or sometimes just swimming the jig. Go out and practice. Have fun with it. The first one is the hardest, and after that, jig fishing gets very addicting. 1 Quote
