jhoffman Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I wanted to fish saturday, but after spending six hours rewiring the trailer I was simply spent, that and a 4am start turkey hunting. So sunday was of course mothers day. I took the wife and the boy to an animal tour that included elk, bears, bobcats in a wooded setting. On the way to and from all I saw was bass boats headed to the lake. I had mom over for dinner and knew i was gonna fight the odds. The family then decided to join me at the lake and after letting the boy drive the boat for an hour I was finally off to fish on my own for a little. Water temp was 60 and reports were the bass moving up. All I could find were super aggressive crappies up shallow. I was getting frustrated. The more I looked around and thought for a second why I wasnt getting into bass I noticed every boat on the lake sitting shallow. I multiplied that by all weekend long and then the bulb went off. Surely, all these guys pounding the banks have any fish up shallow gigged or shut down. What did I do? Relative shallow, shallow is always relative, it might be ten feet where you are. I myself, found a nice 5ft deep road bed center of the lake and went to work with a shad shape worm and a drop shot. I hooked into a bass that broke me off five seconds into the fight. Youll have that on six lb line. I caught a really nice female, some rockbass full of eggs and missed a pile of fish. I dont believe I wouldve caught a bass had I not been paying attention to the details. 1 Quote
