Anyone have experience with it? It seems pretty solid if you can find one

I've got 3...one tuned and upgraded with bearings and Carbontex drag.  Haven't (and may never as I already have several reels for light lures) try the 100M spool.  However, I do want to upgrade the handles.  Not that the original are bad, just that I have read how nice ones with bearings are.  Not only are they nice looking reels, but performance is great.  Plenty of upgrades available if desired, but not needed.  They seem to be under-rated by many.  Not by a few on here, tho.  :teeth:

Grab one if you can find one in decent shape.  I think you will be pleased.

Yeah tackle tour praises them pretty highly so i thought id look into them

Send a PM to ghoti for suggested upgrades, he might even have one for sale.

Thanks for the info! Between this reel and possibly a new patriarch or an optimus xihs how would it compare?

I got one this past Fall with a roached paint job for $50.  Cleaned it, threw in Boca ABEC 5's and a Smooth Drag.  This thing is very quickly becoming a favorite.

The Fuego in my opinion is an amazing reel. The Pinnacle Optimus Xi-HS is a great reel also.

I have a  couple that I have modified to my liking, they are very nice reels, I have never understood why the Sol, a nice reel also , got most of the praise.

I have never fished a Pinacle  so I will reserve my comments, the older Patriarch was a good reel, it was just very heavy by comparison, but very smooth.  I have played with the newer Pflueger LP reels in the store, but they did not trip my trigger.

Very nice!  :teeth:

I agree about the Sol.  I have 2 of them.  I prefer my Fuegos even tho one of the Sols has upgraded bearings, drag and a Presso spool.

Thank you, I have a Sol that I have done a little work to also, I like it a lot, but for some reason I prefer the Fuego.

You can stil drop about $70 dollars and purchase a TDZ GIGAS spool for the Fuego, it can be a 105 spool for lighter fishing or a regular 103 spool. That spool is halfway of the tune up and the reel will function like a TDZ.

1 of them has a TDZ 100M spool, the other is from a Zillion, not much difference in the Zillion from the stock spool, but it is red and looks a little better but the 100M is a nice upgrade. The one with the 100M spool should be the equivalent of the TDZ US Trail type reel.

If I could go back to when TW put the Fuegos on clearance I would buy 3 or 4 of them instead of the 1 I bought.  I love that reel.

My tuned feugo is one of the smoothest reels I have. With a few upgrades it's an amazing reel. I couldn't believe how smooth it was when i upgraded the handle and bearings. Do yourself a favor and get one. You won't be sorry

Can someone tell me what these should sell for reasonably?

I sold one a couple weeks ago that was abt 6.5/10 cosmetically and 9/10 mechanically for $70. You should be able to get a mint one for $125 if not $100. I really liked mine, it was just an oddball with all Shimano's on my other setups so I replaced it.

I recently bought a really nice pair of these for $105 each.  I don't have a problem at all with grips that have no bearings, my personal opinion is it's over-rated as "must do" mod. I do though prefer 90 mm handle and will likely add them to these reels at some point.  Would really like to get hold of the TD-Z 100M handles for these  Clean the gunk out of the riveted grips with solvent and oil with a heavier oil and I can't tell any difference vs bearing supported grips while fishing.

The drags on these reels are another story though.  Probably the worst of all my Daiwa's as far as being sticky but they have more power than I expected.  If I have ever had a reel that needed drag improvements, it is these Fuego's.

They are, at least to me, pretty lightweight reels.  They are tiny, almost too small for my liking but that means everybody else would like the size.  I've torn mine down and serviced them and will fish as they are this season but they are likely to see some work and updated parts over next winter.  Wouldn't mind having a couple more to be honest.

One if my all time favorites, and for the original msrp and tuning options available compared to other reels at that price point, IMO it can't be beat. The stock handle is short, the stock knobs are lame, but if you think you may want to tune up or trick out, this is the perfect reel that won't brake the bank. When I fished primarily from the bank, I can't tell you how valuable it was being able to pack around 3 different spools loaded with different line for different techniques and presentations.
