Hi, I just started focusing on Bass fishing last year. I bought my first 'nice' rod and reel combo last fall. Unfortunately, I broke the tip of the rod on my first day back this Spring. Anyways, it is a Pflueger® Trion GX-7 Spinning Combo (M 6'). I got it "on sale" (lol $10 more than cabelas has it listed as now). Should I replace the rod or sell the reel and repurchase the combo from Cabelas? If I replace the rod should I get a different one? really like the feel of this specific rod and reel together, but should I consider a different rod and invest in a nicer one? Thanks for reading, sorry that my post is as clear as mud.

That's not a bad reel, I wouldn't ditch it.  You might want to fix the tip on that rod.  I'd suggest fix the rod, have it for a back up and go to Walmart and spend roughly $40 on a Berkley Lightning Rod. in a similar weight and action.

Contact the rod company... It may get replaced

How much of the tip did you break? If just and inch or so, you can put a replacement top on it and be fine. More that two inches I'd pick up a Berkley Lightning rod to put that reel on.

It has a warranty. However, it was completely my fault and the warranty is for malfunction of the rod. The break is well past two inches and isn't the whole way through. I smashed it with my car window. I can stop one day this week at a shop that does repairs on fishing poles and get an estimate. Thank you I will check out the replacement suggested at my local shops.

That is done and for that kind of rod it isn't worth fixing it, as the others have said, get the right size Berkley Lightning rod and you'll be fine.

If you don't want to spend alot for another rod try, "fish and save" they have good affordable rods but the better ones sell out quickly

Thanks for the help. I'm going to purchase the Berkley lightning rod. If I don't like it as well I will purchase the combo again and keep the Berkley/Pflueger as a back-up.

@bigbill thank you for the tip. I'll check that out this evening.

Dog just broke about 4 inches off my new BPS Carbonlite rod, went to local shop for a tip. Love the action on the "new" rod. Replacing the tip is the cheapest option, adding a rod to the ensemble is another. You'll like the Lightning rod -- or go for the Lightning Shock rod, a step up, IMO.

Westmoreland is pretty close. It would be about 40-60min. depending on where I left from (home or work). Do you know of any reliable shops near Connellsville, Normalville, Dawson, or even Greensburg or Ohiopyle ?

My wife works at Gander Mountain in greensburg, but they don't fix rods. I repair rods. If you were ever in the area of West Newton, Belle Vernon or the nearby area, I could pick it up from you and replace the top.

O.K. Thank you for the offer. That is very generous. I won't be in the area anytime soon, but I won't hesitate to contact you if/when I am. I saved your website.
