Big-Dan Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Hey guys, fishing season is approaching here in Quebec in about 2 months, and ive all ready started to get gear and stuff ready. I love curly tail grubs 3" and 4" their my #1 baits, for my smallies. This year i want to have more of an assortment of colors, i usually just use plain white and orange. Mister Twister is the brand i use the most and they are not scented or salted. Does scented or salted make a difference? if so i think i might switch brands. thanks Dan Quote

I like Mister Twister, Powerbait and GYCB grubs. Out of all of those GY is my favorite. White worked well for me. Watermelon and red on a naked 1/4 oz jig earned me a killer day of smallies last year. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Not sure if it really makes a difference or not, but I always use Kinami single tail grubs. The bass just kill these. I have tried other brands and always come back to these. Berkley grubs also work fairly well, but not quite as well as the Kinami singe tail grubs do. At least for me. SJ Quote
Blue Streak Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 All of those are good. I have caught tons of fish on a Mr Twister white grub. Does not have to be fancy. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Love the softness and action of GY's... definitely my favorite. However, if you're swimming the grubs Berkley's are supposed to be better (according to some that "tested" the actions). Quote
Gavin Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I use the 4" Zoom Fat Alberts. About the same profile as the Yamamoto grub...less salt, but the sunfish cant chew the tail off. Cheers. . Quote
CSimon2 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I like the BPS Triple Ripple Grubs. The baby bass color works awesome. They do not have any salt or scent to them, but they catch fish like crazy. I think it is more the action on the tail than the scent that drives them crazy. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 "Where" you fish a grub should be of primary concern, followed by size, visibility and action. I don't think "taste" rises very high in importance when fishing a quickly moving bait for bass, who are primarily sight feeders. steve Quote
Big-Dan Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 thanks for the great advice, ill see what brands are available here and ill try a few out. Quote
tholmes Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I like these: http://www.barlowstackle.com/4-Inch-Mag-Tail-Grub-P128C32.aspx The smoke/glitter and watermelon colors specifically. Tom Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 I just ordered $30 of fat albert and chomper grubs. I use mainly green pumpkin or watermelon colors.I don't think scent makes much of a difference. One might argue the fish may hold on a little longer if you are late on a hookset.Scent can be used as a confidence booster as well. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 Try Kalin's grubs with some Megastrike. Can't get much better than this. Colors? Why worry? Smoke with black flake will command most situations very consistently. Just think about approaching your area with depth & speed control in mind. You'll be mighty successful. Quote
Canga Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 i use a couple different kinds, mostly in some form of white or pearl, purple, and firetiger-ish...but many other colors have worked. yum walleye grubs 3 & 4" various colors (both the old LPT and new F2) Trigger X (both bass and walleye versions) various colors Big Bite Baits biobait 3" various colors Northland Slurpies 3 and 4" various colors all are scented to some extent, some are salted as well... never really had any better luck on any one specific, just depends on the color they want that day really. Big-Dan Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 yea this year im going to pick 5-6 different colors to use, dual colors mostly, because ive noticed that white and orange dont always work around here, so i need more colors to toss and see what they bite on. also need to find the right jig head since i fish rocky lake and river beds. the ones ive been using dont last longer 3-4 casts, its mostly the hook that get banged up.
