SCangler91 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Is this reel exclusive to Cabela's and has anyone ever used one? It's the same price point at the Tournament MG at $129, but I can't seem to find any info on it. I've held it in my hands and played with it for a little bit. The reel has a nice feel to it, but I'd love to hear if anyone had any field experience with it. I'll link the reel at the bottom of this post for those who may not have seen it. Lews website doesn't list it and neither does TW. http://www.cabelas.com/product/LEWS-LASER-PRO-BC-REEL/1794273.uts Quote
SCangler91 Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Bump to see if anyone knows anything about these. Quote
brandonss Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 You be better off getting the tournament mg it sounds like to me look on tackle warehouse an look at the description of the mg then go back an look at the description of the reel you mentioned on cabelas site an you will see the differences I like my tournament mgs Quote
Texasangler14 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 at the price point i would stick with the tourney mg. I tried the tournament laser (i know not the same reel) and really didnt like it. The only lews i dont like are the lasers (original and tournament laser) and a lot of my setups are lews. Just my opinion. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 13, 2014 Super User Posted May 13, 2014 Read the description, anything Lews that has the word "laser" in front means graphite frame which means NO, especially when you can get the Tournament MG for the same price. That model is a better version of the regular Lews Laser speed spool, it is still a graphite frame so stick with the Tournament Mg. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 The Lazer can be had for very little money and is a good reel for someone on a budget and in my opinion the best bang for less than 100 buck's. But this is simply out of the category of best bang for your buck, way to many 130 dollar reels that are a much better choice. For the money the Tournament MG (W/mcs mag casting system) is much better, or spend a little more and get the Tournament (W/mbs multi breaking system) it gives you a better spool for lighter lures as well as heavier, and better braking, a real benefit for most, plus the Tournament MBS can be had for around 130 bucks street price you just have to look around, and at that price the Tournament W/ MBS is in a league of it's own!! Buck442 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Came across your post on this reel as I was interested in it after seeing that they will be on sale for $79.99 starting 5-15. I have several of the new version Abu Garcia Revos STX and SX's and love them. I also have a Lews Speed Spool Tournament the $149 reel and a Lews MG the $129 reel. Comparing the two Lews I have to the Revos I am ver pleased with them and have no issues with them after countless hours of use. The only advantage for the Revos is they are a tad lighter, but the Lews seemed to be tad smoother. Now as for the reel you are asking about it appears to be very comparable to the $149 Lews Tourny reel. I do however see that it has 10lbs of drag versus the 14lbs of the tourney rig, but it is lighter than the two Lews that I have coming in at 7.4 oz versus 7.9, assuming that is the frame material mentioned above. It has the dual brake settings system like the $149 version and has 9 +1 bearings same as both others..... I believe I will be trying one out especially since I can get two basically for the price of one of my Revo's...Good luck. Quote

If you have an opportunity to buy either of the Lazer speed spool's for 79 buck's and are in the market for a reel in that price range,,,,, grab it!! You won't find a better reel close to that money! SCangler91 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 FWIW I have the Tournament MG so I know it's a solid reel, was just curious if anyone had actually used this Lazer Pro because I've never seen or heard of them before. Looks like it is just a Cabela's exclusive item. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I have 5 STX's (all three speed options) and 2 of the Speed Spool (5.4:1 and 7.1:1). After much research I got the Speed Spool (and not the laser) instead of the Tournament MG based on bang for the buck . To me I couldnt find any difference between the two except the spool color . I think I wont be getting more of the MCS ( Magnetic Control System) because I truly like the dual braking systems ( MSB Multi-Setting Brake). I've found that I can get away with using the MCS for lures that have weight to them. The 5.4 is set up on my deep diving set up, and the 7.1 is on my football jig/ big worm set up. I'm in the market right now to get another set up and I think this time I'm going to get the Tournament Pro Speed Spool instead of another STX just because I think that the Lews casts a lot smoother than the STX, plus it just "feels" better in the hand, and I like the all black reel. I know that the STX 8.0:1 has 33" IPT (inches per turn), can hold 145 yards of 12# mono, the centrifuge brake has 6 points, and I can get it for $155.00. The fastest Tournament Pro Speed Spool comes in a 7.1:1 at 31" IPT, can hold only 120 yards of 12# mono, the centrifuge brake only has 4 points. but I can get it for $149.00. I'll put this on a Carolina Rig set up. When it comes to getting a reel I dont mind spending a little more cash. More cash = more bearing, which = longer reel life (Hopefully) ... Quote
